Theme park guests at Disneyland Park in California and Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida can pay an extra charge for a handful of exclusive experiences within Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, the parks’ immersive Star Wars land. One of those upcharge attractions has changed following other recent modifications and additions.
Disney made an update to an add-on theme park experience in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge on both coasts. We have details on this and other Star Wars changes. Mickey Visit brings you the latest Disney news and planning resources, including Disney’s third Haunted Mansion bar opening next year and our review of the character breakfast at Disney World’s flagship resort.

Changes at Savi’s Workshop in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

Savi’s Workshop – Handbuilt Lightsabers is an upcharge attraction in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at both Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
During a 30-minute experience, guests build their own lightsaber under the tutelage of a cast member referred to as a “Gatherer” of the lightsaber materials. Guests create their lightsaber, along with other parties in the same room, by choosing their kyber crystal, hilt, sleeve, emitter, pommel cap, activation plate, and switch.

Lightsabers at Savi’s Workshop fall into 4 categories: Peace and Justice, Power and Control, Elemental Nature, and Protection and Defense. Both coasts introduced new features to all 4 groups, and even more options for 1 of those groups that connects to a specific point in the Star Wars timeline.
For all lightsabers at Savi’s Workshop at Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney says that guests can now “Experience the next evolution in chassis and blade construction, featuring thermal cutting, spinning, and deflection effects—plus upgraded audio and smoother blade activation for an even more immersive galactic experience.”

Additionally, the Protection and Defense lightsaber category now features pieces inspired by the High Republic. This is the Star Wars era when the Disney+ series The Acolyte and the Disney Junior animated series Young Jedi Adventures take place, before anything else in the series, even before the prequel movies.
Of the new High Republic lightsaber pieces, Disney says, “Hilt materials bear mysterious motifs and inscriptions that reconnect users with the ancient wellspring of the Force.”

Earlier this year, Disney introduced “salvaged pieces” to Savi’s Workshop, “originally forged by Dark Side warriors” within Star Wars lore.
Disneyland charges $250 for the build-your-own lightsaber experience, while Disney’s Hollywood Studios charges $275. Guests can make reservations through the parks’ websites. Read the review of our Savi’s Workshop experience here.
Since May, Disneyland has been testing a free version of Savi’s Workshop for the first time. It’s available from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM daily via a standby line. See more details about this complimentary version and what it could mean for the future.
In August, Disneyland introduced Batuu Adventure Buddies, interactive toys available exclusively at Droid Depot, another upcharge Galaxy’s Edge attraction. For now, just the first of 3 variations of Batuu Adventure Buddies, the Ewok, is available at Disneyland. Later, Disneyland will add 2 more Buddies and Disney’s Hollywood Studios will introduce all 3. See more details about Batuu Adventure Buddies.
Major changes in Galaxy’s Edge this year include the arrival of characters from the original trilogy to Disneyland and a big update for Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run on both coasts.
