Walt Disney World’s dozens of table service restaurants have incredible food, but that doesn’t mean its quick service restaurants, also called counter service dining locations, should be overlooked. We checked out a barbecue quick service restaurant to see if its specialty was worth seeking out.

Our Visit to Flame Tree Barbecue at Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Flame Tree Barbecue is a quick service restaurant at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. It’s located on Discovery Island, just across from the entrance to the Zootopia: Better Zoogether! attraction.
Flame Tree Barbecue offers different types of meat for its namesake barbecue entrées, as well as a few plant-based options. We liked everything we ate. See all our food photos and a breakdown of the menu below.

The only downside of Flame Tree Barbecue is that all seating is outside. This is one reason why Satu’li Canteen on the other side of the park may have an edge over Flame Tree Barbecue for quick service options in Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
However, Flame Tree Barbecue has plenty of shade in its beautiful seating area behind the pick-up windows. Multiple sheltered patios overlook the Discovery River, with awesome views of Expedition Everest across the lagoon. We enjoyed a meal here during non-peak hours and had an entire sheltered patio all to ourselves.
The view is so good that I was surprised that Disney did not build the Discovery River Amphitheatre seating on this side of the lagoon, as Expedition Everest would have served as an impressive backdrop for the water’s short-lived nighttime shows, and maybe could have helped those productions stick around longer than they did. Instead, diners at Flame Tree Barbecue have this view all to themselves.
Many items served at Flame Tree Barbecue are sticky. Be ready to go wash your hands afterward, and wash them well. Otherwise, you’ll smell like ribs all day.
Flame Tree Barbecue accepts one quick service credit on Disney Dining Plans. The restaurant is eligible for mobile ordering through the My Disney Experience app.
Flame Tree Barbecue Entrées
As to be expected from its name, Flame Tree Barbecue’s specialty is barbecue in all its forms.
The 1/2 Chicken is $13.79. It’s a marinated slow-smoked chicken and comes with baked beans and coleslaw. I was quite pleased with the chicken. The beans and coleslaw were very good, too. The coleslaw was a bit soggy, but it was refreshing in the Florida heat.
The Ribs and Chicken Combo is $15.99, with St. Louis Ribs and the same style of marinated slow-smoked chicken from the 1/2 Chicken entrée. It comes with baked beans and coleslaw.
The Smoked Pulled Pork Sandwich is $12.49 and is topped with coleslaw on the sandwich. Baked beans are served on the side.
For those who can’t decide and want all three types of meat, the Ribs, Chicken, and Pulled Pork Sampler provides a bit of everything for $18.99. This is the most expensive entrée on the Flame Tree Barbecue menu. Like the above entrées, the Sampler also comes with baked beans and coleslaw.
Baked Macaroni & Cheese with Pulled Pork is $12.99 and is topped with crispy onions and coleslaw.
The Smokehouse Chicken Salad is $11.99 and is made of pulled chicken on top of a mixed-greens salad tossed with smoked cheddar, diced Granny Smith apples, dried cranberries, cornbread croutons, crispy onions, and barbecue-ranch dressing. The cornbread croutons are the star of the show here.
As for plant-based entrées, Flame Tree Barbecue serves the Korean Barbecue Sandwich for $12.49. It’s made from Impossible Beef, and the bun is a sourdough baguette. The sandwich has pickled vegetables, Gochujang mayonnaise, and cilantro on it. It comes with French fries.
During our visit, Flame Tree Barbecue had an additional plant-based entrée, burnt ends, for $12.29, but this dish is not currently displayed on Disney World’s website. The burnt ends were made from Impossible Beef and came with coleslaw and French fries.
Here’s a look at two of the kids’ meal options at Flame Tree Barbecue, the All-Beef Hot Dog for $7.99 and the PB&J Uncrustable for $7.29. Kids’ meals here come with a choice of two sides and either milk or bottled water. Note the macaroni on the left is a separate entrée, not part of the kids’ meals.
Other kids’ meals, not pictured, are the Baked Chicken Drumstick for $8.29 and the Pulled Pork Platter for $7.99.
Flame Tree Barbecue Sides, Desserts, and Drinks
Almost every entrée at Flame Tree Barbecue already comes with some combination of sides of baked beans, coleslaw, or French fries, but the restaurant menu also features additional sides à la carte.
Cornbread is $5.49 and comes with two pieces. This had a good density to it.
The Broccoli Salad is $4.99, and vegetarians should know it’s not just broccoli. It also includes bacon, cheese, and raisins.
Other sides at Flame Tree Barbecue are French fries with pulled pork and cheese for $8.99; black garlic, truffle, and parmesan fries for $6.99; French fries for $5.49; bug-shaped graham crackers for $2.29; and a Cuties mandarin for $1.99.
The one dessert on the menu is a seasonal cake pop for $6.29. Right now, it’s key lime pie dipped in dark chocolate and graham cracker crumbles.
For drinks, Flame Tree Barbecue serves fountain beverages, Joffrey’s Coffee, specialty non-alcoholic slushies, and tropical alcoholic beverages.
