Guests’ safety is Disney’s number-one priority, and the very first principle that theme park cast members are taught on their first day of work in any role. Sometimes, though, guest behavior leads to serious safety concerns. How guests behave and what responsibility Disney has, if any, to anticipate and prevent behavior-driven safety incidents has been an ongoing topic this year. An incident occurred this week on a ride following a previous safety scare.

Incident at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure
The log flume ride Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Disneyland Park in California was the site of a safety incident earlier this year.

In June 2026, a 13-year-old guest left their ride vehicle on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and fell down the ride’s major 50-foot drop. After the incident, the ride closed, and the guest was evaluated at a local hospital and released. Cal/OSHA inspected the ride and approved its reopening the next day.
This week, a similar situation unfolded at the East Coast version of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, at Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World in Florida. As the log ascended the lift hill toward the final drop, an adult guest jumped out of their log, according to a video posted by @bandmugs on Instagram, onto the utility path to the right of the ride’s waterway. The caption described the man who exited the vehicle as “scared” of the upcoming drop.
The ride seems to have stopped immediately when the man exited the log. The video shows a cast member escorting the guest backstage. According to the post, the ride remained stopped for over 20 minutes.

WDWNT reported the incident, also mentioning separate incidents at the Disneyland version of the ride where guests tried to leave their vehicles in July and were standing up during the lift hill in August.
The two versions of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure share many similarities, but their ride vehicles are set up differently. In California, guests sit single-file. Each rider has their own seat back that separates them from the guest in front of and/or behind them, but there are otherwise no restraints. In Florida, guests sit in rows of two people, and each row has a lap bar.
In the past year, we’ve seen Disney modify procedures to mitigate safety issues caused by guest behavior. Such efforts have included providing a dedicated shelf to store large water bottles while guests ride Incredicoaster at Disney California Adventure and implementing crowd flow changes within the queue of Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT.
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Magic Kingdom will close for refurbishment on November 2, 2026. It will reopen sometime in December, though Disney has not announced an exact date. The closure was planned before the incident of the guest exiting the vehicle. This will mark the ride’s first scheduled maintenance closure since it debuted in June 2024.
Disney hasn’t specified what the refurbishment will address, but water rides typically require nearly annual routine maintenance work. We hope the downtime will also provide an opportunity for Disney to fine-tune the ride’s Audio-Animatronics characters, some of which often don’t work and others that are visibly damaged despite being relatively new.
Looking ahead, construction is underway on a Lion King version of the Tiana’s Bayou Adventure log flume ride system at Disney Adventure World in Disneyland Paris.
