Disney World Closing 2 Magic Kingdom Rides for Refurbishment This Year

One of the oldest attractions at Magic Kingdom has been operating in a much shorter format for over a year, and soon it will close altogether for a multi-week refurbishment. The park’s newest ride will also temporarily close, marking the first refurbishment since its grand opening. See the upcoming September Disney ride closures.

A ride that’s been around since Walt Disney World‘s opening day in 1971 and a ride that just debuted in 2024 will both close for refurbishment. We have dates and what else is happening with these attractions. Mickey Visit brings you the latest Disney news and planning resources, including the permanent closure of a Disney World restaurant and an overlooked risk of sleeping in at Disney World.

2 Magic Kingdom Rides Closing for Refurbishment

Train station

The Walt Disney World Railroad has been providing guests with a calm, grand-circle tour of Magic Kingdom for over 50 years.

In 2025, the Railroad’s route was drastically shortened to accommodate construction on the west side of Magic Kingdom for Piston Peak National Park and Villains Land. Instead of traveling in a circle with stops at Main Street, Frontierland, and Fantasyland, trains now only go back and forth between the Main Street and Fantasyland stations. The ride also now features an audio story starring Stitch.

Walt Disney World Railroad train

This fall, trains will be out of commission entirely for a few weeks. The Walt Disney World Railroad at Magic Kingdom will be closed for refurbishment from September 28 through October 29, 2026. The final day to ride before the closure will be September 27, and the ride will reopen on October 30.

Disney has not shared specifics about what type of work is being performed during the downtime, but we anticipate the shortened version of the ride to still be in place when the Railroad reopens. Piston Peak and Villains Land are still several years away from opening, so we expect this modified route to continue for the foreseeable future.

The introduction of the modified route came less than three years after the Railroad’s four-year closure due to construction of TRON Lightcycle / Run. When Villains Land finally opens, the Railroad will have been out of commission or operating a shortened route for most of a decade.

Tiana's Bayou Adventure at Disney World

Elsewhere in Magic Kingdom, a newer attraction will close for refurbishment for the first time since it opened. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Magic Kingdom will be closed starting on November 2, 2026. Disney has not announced a reopening date. The final day to ride before the closure will be November 1.

Mama Odie animatronic Tiana's Bayou Adventure

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opened in June 2024, replacing Splash Mountain and repurposing that attraction’s ride system with a new story featuring characters from The Princess and the Frog. As a water ride that requires more maintenance than most attractions, Splash Mountain typically closed for refurbishment annually in the winter for about a month, so it makes sense that Tiana’s would require maintenance now despite still being pretty new.

Hopefully, this will be an opportunity to spruce up the ride’s Audio-Animatronics figures, many of which often don’t work.

Along with Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, the nearby gift shops Critter Co-Op and Tiana’s Bayou General will also close on the same date.
