Does Hollywood Studios Have Fireworks in 2024?

Some of the most anticipated and memorable parts of a Disney World vacation are the firework shows. Through pictures, videos, and even merchandise, Disney Guests show their love of Cinderella Castle paired with sparkling fireworks in the background. So does Hollywood Studios have Disney World fireworks?

Fireworks are an almost nightly occurrence at Disney World. Not only do you get to enjoy a beautifully put together display of pyrotechnics, the shows also include amusing projections on the castle, surrounding pillars, and down Main Street. To put a magical cherry on top, this nighttime spectacular is also accompanied by a mix of nostalgic, contemporary, and new Disney songs.

While shows like this take place almost every night, during special events, and for holidays at Magic Kingdom, what about the other theme parks at Walt Disney World? If you’re spending your Disney Day at Hollywood Studios, will you be able to end your day at the park with a magical nighttime display in 2024?

Like many other Guests, I too enjoy when a day at the park can end with a bang. As someone who frequently visits Walt Disney World, I have seen a variety of nighttime shows at Hollywood Studios. Should you expect to see any fireworks on your Hollywood Studios days in 2024?

Does Hollywood Studios Currently Have Fireworks?

Unfortunately, Hollywood Studios does not currently have a fireworks show. While there is a nighttime spectacular called Fantasmic! that includes some firework elements, it is not a full fireworks show.

Fantasmic! – What is it? Is it worth it? Tips!

Hollywood Studios

Fantasmic! is a special nighttime spectacular that you do not want to miss when you’re at Hollywood Studios. The show takes place at the Hollywood Hills Amphitheater. To get to the amphitheater, you’ll need to head down Sunset Boulevard. While the amphitheater is a bit of a walk past the Tower of Terror, you most likely won’t be joining the line that far down.

Guests start forming lines for Fantasmic! rather early. The line generally ends up extending down Sunset Boulevard before the amphitheater opens up to Guests. Don’t worry about finding the line! Cast Members will be out to help Guests find their way. Some will also be holding signs to help mark the end of the line.

While Fantasmic! is a very popular show that does draw a large crowd, I wouldn’t be too concerned about being able to get in. The Hollywood Hills Amphitheater seats 6,900 Guests. There is also additional standing room that can fit about 3,000 more Guests.

Some nights there are two show times for Fantasmic!. If you’re looking for a more relaxed crowd, I would suggest going to the second showing, if you’re able to. Most Guests go to the first show and then leave for the night. If you wait around for the second show, the crowd shouldn’t be quite as intense.

Fantasmic! Show Overview

Fantasmic! Mickey Mouse

During Fantasmic!, the crowd follows along with Mickey throughout a series of dreams. In the beginning, everything is going well for Mickey as he dreams of himself in the form of Sorcerer Mickey. Throughout the show, Sorcerer Mickey displays his magical powers and his ability to control water and color. Things take a nasty turn when some Disney villains show up and cause Mickey’s dream to turn into a frightful nightmare. After battling the forces of evil that have taken over his dream, Mickey finds that the power of his imagination is just as powerful as his sorcery.

Mickey’s entire dream is presented to us through a 29 minute performance. The show is filled with beautiful and exciting music, special effects, visual water displays, pyrotechnics, stunts, and beloved characters! When it comes to characters, you’ll see a combination of fan favorites as well as rare appearances! You can expect to see characters from movies such as Moana, Frozen 2, The Lion King, Aladdin, Mulan, The Little Mermaid, Pocahontas, Beauty and the Beast, and more.

Fantasmic! is my personal favorite of all of the nighttime spectaculars at Walt Disney World. However, I know that some Guests do favor fireworks shows. So what’s the deal with fireworks shows at Disney’s Hollywood Studios?

Previous Firework Shows at Hollywood Studios

Star Wars fireworks show at Hollywood Studios

A couple firework shows have come and gone from Hollywood Studios. Previous shows include Sorcery in the Sky, Symphony in the Stars: A Galactic Spectacular, and Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM!. Besides Fantasmic!, other nighttime shows include Disney Movie Magic and Wonderful World of Animation. While these two shows were primarily projection shows, Wonderful World of Animation did include a small amount of fireworks.

Since Hollywood Studios obviously doesn’t have a castle, where have the fireworks and projection shows taken place? In the park, located on Hollywood Boulevard, is the Chinese Theater. This is where the previously mentioned nighttime spectaculars have all taken place. Similarly to the castle show at Magic Kingdom, the shows at Hollywood Studios are focused around this landmark. With Guests gathered in the front, projections are displayed on the Chinese Theater. Whenever fireworks were included in the shows, those pyrotechnics would be set off on the back of the theater, creating a beautiful display for the Guests enjoying the show in the front.

While the Chinese Theater at Hollywood Studios is a familiar icon of the park, many would argue that it’s not the most iconic landmark there. The Hollywood Tower Hotel on Sunset Boulevard easily holds that title. So why do nighttime shows not take place there? Most likely, it’s due to the location of the tower. The Chinese Theater has a wider area in the front which creates a great area for Guests to gather. Guests who don’t make it to that main area can easily stand on Hollywood Boulevard and still enjoy the show. The Tower of Terror provides less viewing space for Guests, with only the narrow width of Sunset Boulevard lending space to those who’d wish to see the show.

That being said, there have been a couple instances where The Hollywood Tower Hotel has been used as a projection backdrop.

Tower of Terror Projection Shows

Tower of Terror projections

The Tower of Terror has been graced with both a limited-time projection show as well as a recurring projection show. The limited-time show took place during the 50th Anniversary of Walt Disney World. This was part of the Beacons of Magic show that spread across all four theme parks.

At Hollywood Studios, The Hollywood Tower Hotel became the Beacon of Magic. With this projection display, The Hollywood Tower Hotel returned to its glory days. Prior to the tragic event that took place in the tower, when the hotel was full of the glitz and the glamor of Hollywood, before it became abandoned and worn down… That was the hotel that we were able to see come to life as the Beacon of Magic. You could even see hotel guests dancing and enjoying time at the Tip Top Club! It was a truly beautiful sight to see.

Another projection show that has taken place on the Tower of Terror is one that comes around seasonally. This show is called Sunset Seasons Greetings. During this projection show, the tower is dawned with cheerful holiday projections and animations. The show also includes a fun and festive soundtrack. Guests enjoying the show on Sunset Boulevard will also experience some Disney World “snowfall”  while the show takes place!

The last time we were able to enjoy this holiday projection show was last year during Hollywood Studios' first holiday party. In 2023, Disney World brought Disney's Jollywood Nights to Hollywood Studios. This was the first holiday party that Guest of Walt Disney World were able to experience besides Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party over at Magic Kingdom. There has yet to be an announcement about whether or not Jollywood Nights will return in 2024. However, based on the success of this party, we certainly hope that it does!

Jingle Bell, Jingle Bam! was another part of Disney's Jollywood Nights. If that name sounds familiar, that's because it's one of the fireworks shows that I mentioned to have taken place in the past at Hollywood Studios. If Disney's Jollywood Nights does return in 2024, then there's a good chance that we will see a fireworks show at Hollywood Studios this year!

Hollywood Studios Fireworks

A spectacular display of fireworks is such a fantastic way to end a Disney Day. However, even though Hollywood Studios doesn’t currently have a fireworks show, you still have an opportunity to end your park day with a spectacular nighttime show. Will we see a fireworks show or even a projection show anytime during 2024? Currently, we’re not sure. No official announcements have been made about another nighttime show joining Fantasmic! this year at Hollywood Studios.
