Disney’s Newest Frozen Ride Brings a Whole New Approach

Frozen continues to be one of Disney’s most popular films and each time it’s incorporated into the Disney Parks its a rousing success. Frozen Ever After at EPCOT in Walt Disney World is one of the most popular attractions at the theme park and continues to hold onto its popularity years after its initial opening.

Frozen Ever After is also a part of the first new Frozen themed land at Hong Kong Disneyland which is a near identical replica of the ride except for the major improvement of using full animatronics rather than the face projections the EPCOT version uses. This land has been a hit and we have wondered if it will even come to Disneyland.

The newest Frozen ride takes an entirely different approach with the storyline and is not merely a replica of the current Frozen Ever After. This is a surprising and welcoming twist in creativity from Disney and we just got the first look at NEW photos of this ride which revealed the full storyline.

Fantasy Springs Opening Date

Disney Fantasy Springs Elsa's ice palace

Tokyo DisneySea has invested $2 billion dollars in their newest land, Fantasy Springs, which brings Frozen, Tangled, and Peter Pan rides and dining into the park. This is one of the largest Disney expansions we’ve seen and it’s a great inspiration for what we could possibly see happen at the US parks. Fantasy Springs opened recently on June 6th 2024, and this new land shows how impressive Disney can be when they open their budgets.

One addition in particular, the Frozen land, has caught our eye as we have previously speculated the Hong Kong Disneyland version could even come to Disneyland as part of their expansion effort called DisneylandForward. It is possible we could see some of these newly developed projects at Tokyo DisneySea be a part of the new DisneylandForward expansion. I especially would love to see the new Tangled ride come to Disneyland but at this point, any of these new additions would be an amazing addition to the future Disneyland expansion.

Anna and Elsa’s Frozen Journey

The Frozen land in Disney Fantasy Springs is called the Frozen Kingdom and is a replica of Arendelle including new dining and the Arendelle castle at the foot of the mountains. The attraction in this area is Anna and Elsa’s Frozen Journey boat ride which focuses on the events of the Frozen film as they happened.

This is a notable twist from Frozen Ever After which commemorates the anniversary of the day Anna saved Elsa from Hans and ending the eternal winter.

In the Frozen Ever After ride, the story is guests are there to help Elsa and Anna celebrate the “Official Summer Snow Day” in Arendelle. So rather than a recap of events after it happened, Anna and Elsa’s Frozen Journey will focus on the initial storyline in the film.

Anna and Elsa’s Frozen Journey will take a different approach and recount all the events from the film. Grand Pabbie, the leader of the trolls from the film, will tell the story of Anna and Elsa to two young trolls and brings the sisters’ childhood memories back to life.

The attraction will feature key moments from the films like the start of the eternal winter in Arendelle when Elsa’s powers are revealed.

The attraction will feature some of the most iconic songs from the movie like “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?,” “For the First Time in Forever,” “Love Is an Open Door,” and “Let It Go.”

The animatronics revealed are stunning! All of the fan favorite characters from the Frozen films are present including Kristoff and Sven.

The ending of Anna and Elsa’s Frozen Journey features the awe inspiring moment when Anna turns into ice to save Elsa from Hans. I still remember this twist from watching this film in the theater when my son was a toddler, all our jaws dropped. No one truly saw it coming and this is such an iconic moment to display predominantly in the attraction.

I would love to see this version of a Frozen attraction come to Disneyland as part of their DisneylandForward expansion. It would be great for Disney fans in the US to have both Frozen storyline attractions available at both our theme parks. Only time will tell but we continue to theorize that a Frozen addition at Disneyland could be coming in the future.
