Today we have a Mickey Visit Disneyland construction update with photos of the construction, new merchandise, and more. Our Mickey Visit team is in the parks every week to bring you the latest updates. Be sure to also check out our Disneyland This Week update that we send out each week with essential dates, news, crowd predictions, and more.
This week at Disneyland, we are just at the tail end of the major Spring Break crowds, and the resort is getting ready for its Disneyland 70th anniversary celebration coming up soon. Right now, there is a lot of construction happening around the resort. Some of this is to prepare for the 70th anniversary start date coming up in a few weeks, while other construction sites are bigger projects in development for the parks and Downtown Disney.

Downtown Disney Updates
Starting off in Downtown Disney, the two-story Earl of Sandwich is making good progress, and the structure of the building is taking shape. This will be the permanent location for the restaurant, which will feature an Earl of Sandwich on the ground level and a new table-service concept called The Carnaby Tavern on the second floor. You can see more details about the concept in our separate article on the two-story Earl of Sandwich here.
We were surprised by how quickly Parkside Market construction reached completion and have high hopes that the current Downtown Disney projects will make the same quick progress as well.
You can see the concept artwork below for an idea of what the finished product will look like. The building is located on the west end of Downtown Disney next to the security entrance.
Nearby at the new D-Lander store, a new collection by Ashley Eckstein’s brand Her Universe just recently debuted! The new collection includes a jacket, cardigans, dress, and shirt.
The collection leans into a retro vibe with a few items featuring the Disneyland marquee, which is always a popular design. You can see all of the updates on this new Disneyland Her Universe collection here.
Construction is currently underway at the ESPN Zone building. An area of this will soon be home to a new lululemon store! You can see more details on the lululemon and other shops and dining locations coming in our separate article.
The ESPN Zone building hasn’t been used for anything guest-facing for a while, so we’re excited to see that this new addition is already underway so soon after it was announced. As construction is happening, the old ESPN Zone building is visible.
Recently, there was an exciting new merch addition as Create Your Own Hats debuted at Disneyland! It works the same way as the Create Your Own Headbands do, but you can now put plush on a hat! The hats have been very popular and are selling out. Here is a look at the hat we got from Disney Storyland Boutique.
You can choose from the same selection of plush available for the Create Your Own Headband.
The new steakhouse and barbecue eatery at the former Tortilla Jo’s site has made significant progress during the last month. This is great to see, as the building was sitting empty for a very long time before any work began. During the past month, parts of the second floor of the building have been demolished.
Construction on the Earl of Sandwich/former La Brea bakery building has not yet started. We recently got news that these two ticket booths closest to the location will be removed to make way for the massive new building.
Disneyland Park Updates
At Disneyland Park, there are a few construction projects going on right now and some refurbishments on the horizon. Pinocchio’s Daring Journey is open to guests, but the exterior of the attraction is getting some work done, as you can see in the photo above.
Dumbo the Flying Elephant just reopened after a short closure, and there are some more short refurbishments happening in Fantasyland soon. This is part of a larger batch of ride refurbishments taking place before Disneyland’s 70th anniversary start date. You can read more about these in our Disneyland refurbishments guide.
Further into Fantasyland, “it’s a small world” has construction walls up around the ride. This ride has been undergoing a lengthy refurbishment that took place before and after the holidays. It has been closed since January, and the reopening date was just recently pushed back a couple of weeks. When the ride reopens, it will feature Miguel and Dante from Coco.
The walkway near “it’s a small world” is also closed off behind construction walls right now.
The popular Disneyland castle bow tee is back in stock! It was super popular when it was last available. The shirt was sold out at World of Disney when we went, but it was in stock at the Emporium. Make sure to grab yours quickly!
Disney California Adventure Updates
Over at Disney California Adventure, there is also some construction going on, including work on the exterior of Carthay Circle Restaurant. The building is currently surrounded by construction walls, scaffolding, and tarps, but the restaurant is still open.
In case you missed it, there are some fun parks-inspired tumblers with a set of two mystery pins that recently came out at the Starbucks locations at Disneyland! Check out the Disney California Adventure one above.
The tumblers and pins have iconography specific to each park. For the Disney California Adventure one, for example, you can get pins themed to Carthay Circle, Pixar Pier, San Fransokyo Square, the Little Mermaid ride, Cars Land, Grizzly Peak, the trolley, and the Monsters, Inc. ride.
If you take a ride on the Pixar Pal-a-Round, you’ll get a peek at the Avengers Campus construction happening! The project wraps around behind Cars Land. You can check out our full Avengers Campus construction update for more photos of the construction site.
