Disney Destiny- NEW Disney Cruise Ship Details, Theme, Dates

The Disney Destiny is the newest Disney Cruise Line ship coming to the Disney Cruise Line fleet. This recently announced ship will debut after the Disney Treasure makes its inaugural journey in late 2024.

The Disney Destiny is themed to ‘Heroes and Villains' and is inspired by the legacy of Disney stories, characters and theme park attractions. The ship is planned to be delivered to Disney in 2025 once it finishes construction in Germany. This is the NEWEST Disney Cruise Line ship announcement and we are amazed to see another ship releasing so soon after the Disney Treasure.

We have recently enjoyed a number of Disney Cruises including the famous Alaska Disney Cruise Line cruise plus the popular Marvel Day at Sea aboard the Disney Dream. Keep reading for all the newest information on the Disney Destiny, concept art, and our thoughts on this newest addition to the Disney Cruise Line fleet.

Disney Destiny Inaugural Sailing DateDisney Design Coin

There is no official release date yet for the Disney Destiny but we do know that this newest Disney Cruise Line ship will set sail in 2025. Read our full guide to all the currently announced itineraries through Spring and Summer 2025.

It is likely that inaugural sailing for the Disney Destiny will take place in late 2025 which would provide the most realistic timeline.

For reference, the inaugural sailing of the Disney Treasure is set to take place in December 2024. Since the spring and summer itineraries have already been announced for 2025, I think it is more likely we will see the Disney Destiny set sail in fall or winter 2025.

Disney Destiny DesignDisney Destiny Cruise Ship

The Disney Destiny is called the sister ship to the Disney Wish and Disney Treasure which means it will follow the same design and may include similar experiences whether this is overlapping entertainment, restaurants, and/or lounges.

Ultimately the design will mirror the Disney Wish and Disney Treasure in terms of layout with how many decks, staterooms, and lounges. For reference, the Disney Wish and Disney Treasure both have the capacity to hold 4,000 passengers.

Disney Destiny Theme Park Inspired

Since the description for the Disney Destiny hints at being “inspired by theme park attractions,” it may be possible we will see the Disney Destiny also receive at least one of the Haunted Mansion, Jungle Cruise, and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea inspired pubs coming to the Disney Treasure.

Haunted Mansion Disney Destiny concept art

This is something that is also hinted at in the teaser video shared by Disney Cruise Line with an image (scroll down for the screenshot!) from the Haunted Mansion wallpaper featured in one of the stateroom hallways! It would be a smart move to incorporate the Haunted Mansion into more than one cruise ship as this Disney Parks attraction has a huge fan following.

I anticipate that the Haunted Mansion lounge on the Disney Treasure (called the “Haunted Mansion Parlor”) will be incredibly popular and it would make sense to repeat this assured success on the Disney Destiny. Plus, this would also be a fun way to incorporate some Disney Villain energy.

 Jungle Cruise concept art

Since the Disney Destiny will follow a similar design to the Disney Treasure and the announcement has hinted at the presence of theme park attraction inspired spaces, I am placing my bets will see at least one of the theme park pubs coming to this ship whether it is the Haunted Mansion Parlor or the Jungle Cruise lounge, called “Skipper Society Lounge.”

EPCOT Disney Cruise Line suite

Of course, we could also see the EPCOT themed suite be part of the Disney Destiny but I am hopeful we would see more than just this suite be part of the new cruise ship. It would seem odd to refer to theme park inspiration with this new ship and then that inspiration amounts to a luxury suite that is financially out of reach for many families.

Disney Destiny Theme & Characters

The Disney Destiny is inspired by the duality of heroes and villains in Disney stories so the theme of the ship will focus on these “opposing forces of light and dark.”

Onboard the ship guests will encounter heroes and villains including those from Walt Disney Animation Studios stories like “The Lion King,” “Hercules” and “One Hundred and One Dalmatians.” This is exciting news for Disney Villains fans as this means Disney Villains will be a big part of the experience for this Disney Cruise Line Ship! Based on those films teased, we can expect to see Scar, Hades, and Cruella de Vil whether it's through meet and greets, experiences, or entertainment.

In the screenshot above, there are also hints at other Disney characters based on their logos on the stateroom doors. The video includes imagery like the Haunted Mansion wallpaper, Black Panther, Spider-Man, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Edna Mode from The Incredibles.

One of the most exciting reveals about this new ship is the inclusion of a large presence of Disney Villains which is not a common cruise character theme. Characters on Disney Cruises are an important draw for guests and cruises that covet rare characters are always popular with guests.

New Show Coming to Disney Destiny?

While we do not know yet what show will be coming to the Disney Destiny, it is always fun to speculate based on the information shared by Disney so far.

The inspiration Disney directly highlighted both in the announcement and the teaser video included “The Lion King,” “Hercules” and “One Hundred and One Dalmatians.” The teaser video included visuals of Scar, Cruella de Vil, Hercules, Hades, and Pain and Panic.

I am curious how the Disney Destiny will feature characters from the Lion King since these are not meet and greet characters and are often more regularly included in a range of shows at the Disney Parks. I would love to see a new Broadway-stye production featuring The Lion King but this may be too wishful of thinking. However, the Disney Cruise Line is in a moment of growth right now with back to back new ships, new shows, and a brand new Disney island! So, can't hurt to hope.

Disney Moana Show

It may be more likely that Disney Destiny will feature the new Moana Broadway-style production that is coming to the Disney Treasure.

It is common for the most popular productions to be featured on more than one ship so we do not know for sure what shows will be included but it does seem likely we will see some repeats amongst the Wish sister ships.

Disney Destiny NEW ArtworkDisney Destiny Artwork

Disney has also revealed new filigree artwork for the bow of the Disney Destiny which is a Disney Cruise Line design tradition. Every Disney Cruise Line Ship has its own artwork unique to the theme of that ship.

The Disney Destiny filigree artwork (shown above) depicts Minnie Mouse striking a valiant pose in a “heroic ensemble” with her cape waving in the sea breeze. This follows the design theme of the ship as Minnie Mouse will be seen as a “hero” in this design scheme.

The Disney Destiny, according to Sharon Siskie, senior vice president and general manager of the Disney Cruise Line, will “celebrate our most legendary Disney stories and characters, bringing them to life in new and exciting ways exclusively for Disney Cruise Line guests.”

This is a another large expansion for the Disney Cruise Line fleet and especially impressive since the Disney Treasure hasn't even set sail on its inaugural voyage yet! Disney is realizing the demand and popularity of its cruise ships and rising to meet it.

Disney Destiny Port Stops

While it wasn't clearly revealed what the Port Stops are quite yet for the Disney Destiny, Disney Cruise Line mentioned that the delivery of the Disney Destiny in 2025 is part of a multi-year expansion of the Disney Cruise Line fleet that includes the Disney Wish, Disney Treasure, and the Disney Adventure. Disney Adventure is a different class of ships and is set to sail out of Singapore starting in 2025.

They also mentioned the new Bahamas island destination debuting this summer, Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, as another key part of this multi-year expansion of the Disney Cruise Line.

The Disney Destiny looks like a great addition to the Disney Cruise Line fleet. Any new ship is good news for Disney Cruise fans as this greatly expands possible ports of call, dates, and availability for the most popular new ships. You can watch the full Disney Destiny teaser trailer below.
