New Disney Island Lookout Cay Now Open
The new Disney Cruise Line Island, Lookout Cay, is now officially open! We were among the first to visit the island on its preview cruise and see this new Bahamian island for the first time to get this first hand experience of the new island.
Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point is located in The Bahamas. It is located on the island of Eleuthera and its within close proximity to Castaway Cay.
The architectural designs around Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point are very much inspired by the island of Eleuthera. You can see the resemblance of different plants and shells through the beautiful colors and shapes that were used for the different structures and buildings. Rather than a fictional storyline on Lookout Cay, the island instead honors Bahamian culture. You will see this represented in the buildings, the entertainment options, and the music on the island.

New Parade Inspired by the Junkanoo Bahamian Celebration
Disney Imagineers took inspiration from Junkanoo Bahamian local celebrations. They collaborated with Bahamian designers and locals to help bring this celebration to life in the design of Lookout Cay.
Junkanoo is one of the Caribbean's most celebrated carnivals featuring colorful costumes and dance routines. People spend months preparing for the street parades that accompany this festival which all include the beat of whistles, cowbells, horns, and goatskin drums. This celebration takes place on Boxing Day- the day after Christmas- along with New Year's Day and many Saturdays in the summer.
The celebration, music, and dancing are all incorporated into the island with Imagineers bringing the experience of Junkanoo to guests through music, architecture, and entertainment on the island.
Guests can make their own Junkanoo headpieces at the Arts and Cultural Pavilion plus enjoy a traditional parade called “RUSH! A Junkanoo Celebration” put on by a local Junkanoo group which will also feature Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Daisy- all in their new Junkanoo inspired designer clothes!
Junkanoo had a large influence on the activities and design at Lookout Cay so you will see elements of this cultural celebration all over the island. Disney also shared concept artwork for games at the Play-Play Pavilion during the Fun in the Sun Beach Bash.

NEW Character Outfits for Lighthouse Point
Disney Cruise Line has shared concept art that shows all the Disney characters in their new Lighthouse Point character outfits.
These outfits are all themed to the idea of “Junkanoo fun in the sun” as these designs are all inspired by this Bahamian celebration.
Previously, Disney had shared the looks of just Mickey and Minnie Mouse and now we have an idea of all the outfits for the entire crew!
Mickey and Minnie's new looks are designed by Bahamian fashion designer Theodore Elyett. The garments are inspired by the colorful spirit of Junkanoo, the country's signature festival featuring music and parades. See a look at the beautiful design for the outfits above!
Where is Lighthouse Point?
Just like Castaway Cay, Lighthouse Point is located in The Bahamas. More specifically, it is located on the island of Eleuthera. Lighthouse Point is in close proximity to Castaway Cay. This makes it convenient for Disney Cruise Line to have sailings with stops to both island destinations, as they are doing for the inaugural sailing to Lighthouse Point.
With the production of Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, Disney is really focusing on how to further benefit both the island as well as the Bahamians and community of Eleuthera. The three main focuses of preservation are Environment, Culture, and Community.
Environment – The goal for this project is to have as little effect to the natural environment as possible. With the current development design, Disney will actually only be using about 16% of the island's acreage. Even then, a lot of that percentage will be for areas that have little impact to the island itself. Such as areas for beach chairs, umbrellas, and support structures. With so much land that is being undeveloped, Disney is donating over 190 acres to the Bahamian people and government.
Culture – When designing Lookout Cay, Disney wanted to celebrate the culture of Eleuthera while capturing the spirit of the island and the Bahamians. When researching, Disney went directly to the source. Local artists and cultural experts assisted the Disney Imagineers as they explored different arts and cultural sites across the island.
Community – Disney not only cares for the island, but for the people as well. Over the years, Disney has supported the Bahamian community in a variety of ways. This new project only added to this effort by supporting small businesses, assisting in educational development, creating job opportunities, and assisting in emergency relief.
The Design of Lighthouse Point
The architectural designs around Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point were very much inspired by the island of Eleuthera. You can see the resemblance of different plants and shells through the beautiful colors and shapes that were used for the different structures and buildings.
You will see the spirit of the community shine throughout Lighthouse Point. Disney Imagineers partnered with artists, historians, and cultural ambassadors to learn more about The Bahamas and the people that live on these beautiful islands. Their learnings were then able to be incorporated into the designs as well as experiences around Lookout Cay. You'll find recreational and water areas that are inspired by the Bahamian street parade, Junkanoo. These areas are filled with beautiful colors and music that perfectly incorporate the festive spirit of this cherished parade. Pieces of art made by various Bahamian artists will be seen throughout gathering spaces and cabanas. These pieces include murals, sculptures, and more!
Lighthouse Point Experiences
While more details are promised to come in the future, we do have some knowledge of the experiences that are coming to Lighthouse Point.
Arts and Cultural Pavilion – At the center of Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, there will be an Arts and Cultural Pavilion. At the pavilion, Guests will have a chance to learn about and appreciate the different traditions and beauty that can be found within The Bahamas. This firsthand insight will be provided by local artists.
This pavilion will feature a Junkanoo workshop which will allow guests to learn all about the history, music, and the costumes of Junkanoo. Guests will even be able to make their own Junkanoo headpieces to take home!
Port Adventures – Similar to Castaway Cay, Port Adventures will be available at Lighthouse Point. New adventures that we have yet to see from Disney Cruise Line will be available here at Eleuthera. These adventures were designed so Guests can further explore the culture and beauty of this island. To deepen the connection to the community, local tour operators were partnered with while designing these new adventures.
Premium Activities – Another similarity to Castaway Cay is the Cabana Rentals that will be available at Lookout Cay. Don't forget to take a look at and appreciate the beauty of these cabanas. Uniquely shaped, beautifully colored, and enhanced with art made by Bahamian artists. These beachside cabanas will be the perfect addition to your beach day!

Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point Q&A
Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point is located on the island of Eleuthera in The Bahamas.
While there are similarities, there is a difference between Lighthouse Point and Castaway Cay. Castaway Cay is Disney's own private island. Lighthouse Point is located on the island of Eleuthera which is shared by Disney and the Bahamian government and people. Lighthouse Point is also very rich with the Bahamian culture as opposed to Castaway Cay which is very “Disney”.
A variety of different Disney Cruise Line ships will go to Lighthouse Point. So far, the itineraries show the Disney Magic, Disney Fantasy, Disney Wish, and Disney Dream will sail to Lighthouse Point.
Disney did purchase Lighthouse Point. However, unlike Castaway Cay, this isn't considered a Disney private island. Disney chose to share the island of Eleuthera with the Bahamian government and people.
