Disney Cruise Line's Newest Ship Name and Theme

newest Disney Cruise line ship Disney Destiny

The newest Disney Cruise Line ship, which is a sister ship to the Disney Wish and Disney Treasure and in the “Triton” class of ships, is called the Disney Destiny. It will feature a “Disney heroes and villains” theme that will draw inspiration from Disney stories, characters, and theme park attractions. The new Disney Destiny will draw inspiration from Disney, Pixar, and Marvel.

We are almost as thrilled about how they announced the ship details as we are about the details themselves. Two years ago when Disney provided the information and reveal for the Disney Treasure they did it as a key segment during the D23 Expo Disney Parks presentation. The fact that this news that is of similar importance was released on a random morning continues to lead us to the conclusion that we will get lots of big announcements at the D23 Expo this year in August. Disney has consistently teased and shared more details with investors about the $60 billion planned investment for Disney Parks. Add into the mix that work appears to already be starting at Disney's Animal Kingdom on the new Tropical America's land that was teased to feature Indiana Jones, Encanto, and Coco. It looks like August at D23 is shaping up to be a massive release.

Onboard, guests will be able to encounter both heroes and villains from Walt Disney Animation stories like “The Lion King,” “Hercules” and “One Hundred and One Dalmatians” in the different spaces, experiences, and entertainment opportunities available onboard. When developing the ship, Disney Cruise Line and Walt Disney Imagineering were inspired by the “dynamic duality of every great Disney story” and the opposing forces that drive a character towards their purpose.

Disney Destiny revealed

See a look at this cute video that Disney Parks shared of Captain Minnie encountering some favorite Disney characters present on the boat in search of the lost commemorative coin.

In an Instagram post, livingbydisney pointed out some of the clues for what we can expect on the Disney Destiny based on the shot of the hallway at the end of the above video. We see references to the Haunted Mansion, Spider-Man, Black Panther, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Edna Mode (from The Incredibles), implying that these stories and characters may be featured on the Disney Destiny.

New Bow Artwork Revealed and Keel Laying Ceremony for Disney Destiny

Disney also shared a look at this new filigree artwork for the bow of the ship, which continues a beloved Disney Cruise Line design tradition. Minnie can be seen in a new outfit with a cape striking a heroic pose as she leads guests on their cruise vacations.

The Disney Destiny had the keel laying ceremony today, a tradition to bestow good luck upon the ship, at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.

The ship is scheduled for delivery next year in 2025 as part of the multi-year expansion of the Disney Cruise Line fleet including the Disney Wish and Disney Treasure, the new Disney Adventure that will homeport in Singapore and sail throughout Southeast Asia, and Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point.

“The Disney Destiny will celebrate our most legendary Disney stories and characters, bringing them to life in new and exciting ways exclusively for Disney Cruise Line guests,” said Sharon Siskie, senior vice president and general manager of Disney Cruise Line. “As we continue to expand our fleet, the Disney Destiny will further strengthen our position as a leader in family cruising as we offer even more ways for families to experience Disney magic and world-class service at sea.”
