Before entering a Disney Park, you will need to go through a variety of security measures. All Guests must walk through metal detectors and some may even be pulled to the side for additional wanding. Guests with bags, strollers, and wagons will undergo additional security checks where the Disney Security Guards look through items to make sure nothing is being brought into the parks that goes against Disney’s rules.Of course, rules aren’t always followed. Whether it’s from lack of knowledge, lapse in good judgement, or a pure attempt to forgo the rules, some Guests have tried to bring some pretty curious things into the parks. In this article, I’m going to share some of the craziest things that guests have tried to bring into the Disney Parks shared by Cast Members. If these stories didn’t come directly from Cast Members, it would be hard to believe they’re true!

1. Balls
While you can take beach balls, nerf balls, and other soft inflatable balls to most Disney pools, you cannot take balls of any kind into the Disney Parks. While it’s understandable that Disney wants to avoid horseplay within the parks, it does seem like an odd rule since you can purchase balls at many of the Disney gift shops. No matter, if you try to bring a ball into the parks, Disney Security will stop you. They don’t just draw the line at toys or sports balls either. This goes for medical and massage-style balls as well! Guests with medical conditions such as plantar fasciitis have attempted to bring balls into the parks before to roll their feet on when they start having issues. If you had plans on bringing a ball of any sort into the parks, whether for a child to play with or for medical conditions, you’ll be better off leaving it behind. The Disney Security Guards will turn you away until you take the ball back to your car, hotel, or throw it away.
2. “Hidden” Alcohol
Many Cast Members have reported numerous instances of Guests trying to bring alcohol into the parks. Some Guests try to get creative and sneak their alcohol in. There have been reports from Cast Members stating that small bottles of alcohol have been found hidden inside of shoes. Others note that they’ve come across Guests who simply tried to walk into the park with their alcohol in tote. Reddit user lilb***h1991 recalls a time when a Guest tried to bring in a tall can of IPA,“Didn’t even try to hide it. Just had it in his backpack….he couldn’t even drink it in the car so he just threw it away. “Other Guests have tried to hide alcohol in areas they assume won’t be checked – like children’s strollers. After all, no one would suspect a child of having alcohol. However, Disney Security has found bottles of alcohol inside stroller baskets, hidden under blankets. Outside alcoholic beverages are never allowed to be brought into the Disney Parks. Luckily, if you’re wanting to enjoy alcohol during your day at Disney, you can purchase some inside of the parks. All of the parks at both Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World have alcohol available for purchase for Guests ages 21 and older.
3. Food… In Bulk

On occasion, Guests have been stopped for the food that they’ve tried to bring into the parks. To confirm, Guests allowed to bring outside food and beverages. However, issues have arisen when Guests have brought a mass amount of one particular item. When food is brought in bulk, suspicion then arises that the Guest may be planning on selling this food to other Guests.
Disney Cast Member and Reddit user Mikstache recalls a time when he came across a large amount of snacks that a Guest was bringing into the parks with them,“Funniest thing I may have or not have found, churros! And not like one churro but a large size lunch bag loaded with about 20 churros. Had to question if there was intent to sale. She was okay to go in, but definitely the funniest and weirdest thing.”
4. Edibles
The Disney Parks have a strict rule against marijuana. This includes the smoking of marijuana, marijuana infused products, and even medicinal marijuana. Of course, this hasn’t stopped Guests from trying to bring it with them into the parks.Reddit user letownse shared an interaction they had with a Guest where the Guest tried to sneak marijuana gummies into the parks in a bag of Starbursts.
5. Potty Chair
Since Disney is a popular vacation spot for families with young children, chances are that many of them are in the process of potty training. Understandably, this can be a difficult part of their lives to maneuver in general, but especially while away on a trip. As a mother, I’ve taken Disney vacations during the potty training stages of both of my children and know how trying it can be.
However, I can say that I’ve never taken a full potty chair with me to the Disney Parks. Other Guests have though. While it may seem odd, it doesn’t go against Disney's rules. Perhaps some rules should be in place for where the potty chair is used though. Reddit user Extension_Coyote_967 shares, “I saw a mom pull out a potty chair and a little girl was using it in the middle of Disneyland”.
It’s understandable that little ones are more comfortable training on a potty chair that fits them. If you’re traveling with a child who isn’t fully potty trained yet, a smaller, more convenient, and more sanitary alternative to a potty chair is a! These seats are compact, foldable, and sit directly on regular toilet seats. This will give your little one the privacy they need, while giving them the comfort and support needed for their smaller size.
6. Inflatable Mattress
Disney days can be tiring for anyone. It’s important to let your body rest when necessary. Heading back to your hotel for a midday nap and some much deserved relaxation is a great idea. Bringing an air mattress to the parks? Not so much. Reddit user mamafia02 recalls a time when she was a Disney Cast Member and a Guest tried to do just that, “I stopped someone from bringing in an inflatable mattress. It was a compact one that fit in a backpack. When we confiscated it and told him they could not have that, they told us it was due to their narcolepsy and their original plan was to just blow it up in the middle of long lines…”
If you feel like you’re going to need to rest during your park day and don’t plan on heading back to your hotel, consider finding a shady spot to sit down and rest your feet. You can even head to a dark, indoor, air conditioned attraction to catch some z’s for a couple minutes if you really need to. If you think long lines are where the exhaustion is going to really set in, take advantage of Disney’s Lightning Lane Pass services!
7. Frying Pan
A frying pan? Yes, you read that right. One time a Guest tried to bring a frying pan into the parks. While that may seem a bit wild, that’s not the best part. The Cast Member let them bring it in! Technically, a frying pan isn’t specifically mentioned as an item that can’t be brought into the parks. Plus, this particular frying pan was brought to be signed by none other than Flynn Rider!
I love that this Cast Member was willing to help this Guest pursue this special character interaction. However, I’m not sure that every Cast Member would let a frying pan through. You may want to put some extra thought into it if this is ever an item that you’re considering bringing into the parks.
8. Human Ashes
One of the craziest (and very common) things that Guests try to bring into the parks is human ashes. While Disney Security does try to put a stop to this from happening at the security check, Guests do still manage to successfully get them into the parks.
As you can imagine, the most common place that Guests spread ashes is in the Haunted Mansion. Other common places include flower pots, other landscape areas, and Pirates of the Caribbean. While intentions may be pure and you simply want to lay your loved one to rest at a place that was special to them, I would advise that you don’t spread ashes at Disney. Not only is it against the rules, the ashes won’t be left where you spread them. There is a special process in place for the clean up of human ashes. Rather than resting peacefully on the grounds of Disney, your loved one’s ashes will most likely end up in a large vacuum and then be disposed of.
