Walt Disney Imagineering is finally building a ride that fans have dreamed about for years: a roller coaster through the door vault at the Monsters, Inc. factory. The sequence in Pixar’s 2001 film with Mike and Sulley chasing after bad guy Randall through the factory’s intertwined web of flying doors has always seemed like it would make a fun Disney theme park attraction, and now that wish is being fulfilled.
The door coaster is under construction, and Disney recently celebrated a milestone on the road to the attraction’s grand opening. We have photos and details of the landmark occasion. Mickey Visit brings you the latest Disney news and planning resources, including 3 Disney World restaurants receiving MICHELIN Guide honors and Disney replacement rides that are better than their predecessors.

Monsters, Inc. Doors Roller Coaster Milestone

Monstropolis, a new theme park land based on Monsters, Inc., is coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World in Florida. The headliner attraction of Monstropolis will be an indoor suspended roller coaster through the factory’s door vault, just like the climactic chase scene in the movie.
As construction continues for the highly anticipated coaster, Walt Disney World Ambassadors Phelicia Blake and Kyle Withers shared an update.

Walt Disney World cast members were invited to sign a beam that will be used to build the Monsters, Inc. roller coaster. Beam-signing is a tradition for every major Disney attraction. Although the beam and its signatures won’t be visible when the ride opens, the tradition is symbolic of these Disney cast members forever being part of the attraction’s history.

For some attractions, the beam being signed might be a wall support of some kind. For the Monstropolis coaster, cast members signed one of the supports that will hold a piece of the roller coaster track in place.

Blake and Withers shared these remarks:
“We’re here at Disney’s Hollywood Studios taking part in a longstanding cast member tradition: a beam-signing.
As the park enters its exciting new chapter with the creation of Monstropolis, the cast members who bring this park to life every day get to celebrate by signing a beam that will be a part of the new Monsters, Inc. coaster.
Cast are leaving their permanent mark on Disney’s Hollywood Studios and opening the door to a whole new world of possibilities.”

Here’s a look at construction progress for the doors coaster as of October 2026. Some of the support beams and track pieces are already in place.
The roller coaster will be part of Phase 2 of Monstropolis, opening after the 2027 debut of Phase 1, which will include the Welcome to Monstropolis indoor theater show, the Harryhausen’s table service restaurant, the Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza quick service restaurant, and lots of creatively themed architecture showcasing the monster world. Earlier this week, Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro posted a photo of himself signing infrastructure at the future home of Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge, a new Walt Disney World hotel opening this summer.
D’Amaro also checked in on other Walt Disney World expansions, including Monstropolis. See the update from D’Amaro here.
Monstropolis is one of several major expansion projects ongoing at Walt Disney World. Others include the Tropical Americas land at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, as well as Piston Peak National Park and Villains Land at Magic Kingdom.

Cast members signed a beam at the construction site of Antonio’s Fiesta de Encanto, an indoor, family-friendly Encanto ride, in January 2026, pictured above. Tropical Americas, including the Encanto ride, will open in 2027, but Disney hasn’t announced an exact date.
Considering the Monsters, Inc. beam-signing took place in October, and assuming the pace of both rides’ construction is consistent, one could speculate that the Monsters, Inc. coaster may open 9 months after the Encanto ride. While this makes for a logical estimate, we wouldn’t read into that exact timeframe with too much certainty. Many factors go into when Disney decides to open a new ride beyond just construction completion.
Piston Peak and Villains Land are still in the early phases of their construction. It will be a long while before any beams are signed there.
