Walt Disney World attractions occasionally close so that Disney’s maintenance teams can perform routine work to keep the rides in good shape year after year. This is especially true of water rides, which require more regular upkeep than other types of attractions. One Disney World boat ride is still pretty new, but is about to undergo its first scheduled refurbishment, which we now have more details on. See also all the refurbishments happening this month.
Disney World announced the reopening date for an attraction that will undergo refurbishment in the coming weeks. We have the closing and opening dates, and our wish list for what the maintenance could include. Mickey Visit brings you the latest Disney news and planning resources, including Lightning Lane prices increasing and how Disney World’s Villains Land could be scarier than guests expect.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Refurbishment Dates
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opened at Magic Kingdom in June 2024, transforming the former Splash Mountain indoor/outdoor log flume ride into a reimagined attraction inspired by The Princess and the Frog.

The ride has continued operating for over 2 years without any scheduled refurbishment closures. That’s atypical for a water-based attraction. Disney typically closes its major outdoor water rides annually during winter months because these attractions require more regular maintenance than other rides. Other styles of attractions aren’t refurbished as frequently. Before Disney converted Splash Mountain into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, Splash Mountain usually closed each January for about a month.
On the one hand, it makes sense why Disney would want to keep a new ride open as long as possible before refurbishing it. Guests who haven’t visited in a while will want to experience it.
Everything needs refreshing at some point, though, and last August, Disney scheduled the first refurbishment of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure to begin on November 2, 2026. The final day to ride before the closure will be November 1.
Disney has now shared that Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will reopen on December 18, 2026. This date in the My Disney Experience app indicates that the ride will no longer be closed then.
This also means the attraction will be unavailable for most nights of Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, which kicks off on November 8 and continues on select nights through December 22.

Disney also performs a park-wide annual refurbishment on each of its water parks, Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon and Disney’s Blizzard Beach, for months at a time. Typhoon Lagoon is currently closed, with its reopening date not yet announced.
The Audio-Animatronics throughout Tiana’s Bayou Adventure frequently break down. Most of the times I’ve ridden, multiple characters have been completely still that were supposed to be moving. Fabric on some of the Audio-Animatronics figures, like one of the large Louis alligator figures, is visibly falling apart at points on the figure where two sections rub together repeatedly all day. Elsewhere, screens have been turned off during my rides that should be displaying animation.
I hope that these issues will be addressed during the refurbishment, alongside any other general water-related upkeep required, so that guests can fully enjoy this incredible attraction.

Other Magic Kingdom rides are also undergoing refurbishments, with one being a significant overhaul.
Walt Disney World Railroad will reopen on October 30, having been closed since September 28. Trains will still only travel between the Main Street, U.S.A., and Fantasyland stations. The full-circle route around the entire park will remain out of commission, likely for the next few years, to accommodate construction for Piston Peak National Park and Villains Land.
In Tomorrowland, Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress will reopen in late spring 2027. It’s been closed since July 2026 as Imagineers change every scene, bringing the story into more modern decades. A new Audio-Animatronics figure of Walt Disney will also be part of the ride’s introduction. See a scene-by-scene breakdown of the changes coming.
