Each year, Disneyland reimagines one of its most popular roller coasters for about a month at a time. That overlay is the version of the ride currently available to guests, but it will not be around for much longer.
Keep reading to see how much longer you can enjoy this rethemed attraction! Mickey Visit brings you the latest Disney news and planning resources, including what opening day Disneyland attraction was added to the refurbishment calendar and which Disney World restaurant is a must-try experience despite often being skipped.

Hyperspace Mountain Closing Soon
The Hyperspace Mountain overlay on Space Mountain is a way for Disney to bring some more Star Wars into the parks. It turns Space Mountain from a space adventure to a battle between Rebel X-wings and Imperial TIE fighters, all set to the iconic Star Wars score.

Hyperspace Mountain will cease operations for the season on June 1, and will return to the regular Space Mountain on June 2. There is no downtime required for this transition.
This annual overlay coincides with May the 4th, when many Star Wars events are happening at Disneyland, such as Disneyland After Dark: Star Wars Nite.
This year, Hyperspace Mountain opened on April 28, giving it a run time of a little over a month. While Disneyland has not officially announced anything for next year’s overlay, we can expect to see Hyperspace Mountain return around the same time, since it typically runs during that period of time.
Other Recent Star Wars-Themed Changes at Disneyland
There have been other Star Wars-themed overhauls at Disneyland. These ones, however, are permanent changes that guests will be able to experience all year round, unlike Hyperspace Mountain.
Beginning last month, the timeline for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge has been shifted to include characters from the original trilogy, such as Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, and Han Solo, instead of just the newer generation of characters. These characters will now roam Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and sporadically interact with guests for an immersive experience.

On May 22, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run received an update that added Grogu and the Mandalorian to the ride, three new planet destinations for riders to choose from, and major upgrades to the engineer position. Since opening, the engineer role has been seen as the most boring one to have, since they did not participate in the gameplay as much as the other positions. Now, the engineer is in charge of communicating with Grogu, and they also get to choose the final location for the adventure.
Being able to pick which destinations the ride goes to sets Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run apart from Star Tours, where a randomized system picks different locations for each ride through. Having it under rider control provides a much more interactive experience where guests can go where they want to go, not where a randomizer chooses.
If you were looking forward to riding Hyperspace Mountain, there is still time to do so before it closes on June 1! But there is still plenty of Star Wars to enjoy even after Hyperspace Mountain closes.
