Disneyland Honors the Overnight Team That Keeps the Parks Running with Special Event

The cast members truly make the magic happen at Disneyland. Whether they are ride operators, wait staff at restaurants, bus drivers, characters, tour guides, janitorial staff, or any of the many other roles across the resort, days at the park would not be the same without them. The Disney experience also would not be the same without the cast members who work behind the scenes to make the parks guest-ready for opening the next day.

Disneyland’s Third Shift Celebration for Cast Members

After the Disneyland parks close for the night, the third shift of cast members clock in. They ensure that the parks are ready to go for guests the following morning by taking on “unique roles in polishing, priming and prepping” the parks after-hours. While the cast members themselves are not seen by parkgoers, their efforts certainly are.

In order to celebrate all of these third shift cast members, Disneyland hosted its annual Third Shift Celebration on July 22 to shine a spotlight on all of these cast members. The Third Shift Celebration is an after-hours event exclusively for third shift cast members to come together and enjoy some time in the parks. More than 1,800 cast members attended this year’s event.

This year’s Third Shift Celebration took place after the parks closed for the night, and featured many fun activities and events at Disneyland Park. Several of the rides and attractions, such as Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters and Star Tours – The Adventures Continue, were open for cast members to enjoy.

In addition to the rides, there was also a live DJ in Tomorrowland Terrace, photo opportunities, and character interactions throughout the park. The restaurants and snack spots were open throughout the night, and some of the offerings included DOLE Whip at The Tropical Hideaway and fried chicken from Plaza Inn.

Cast members in attendance were also gifted this exclusive hat with the third shift logo.

These events do not go unappreciated by the cast members. One participant remarked, “For me, the best part about Third Shift Celebration is the resort showing genuine appreciation for the work that we do. While there are a lot of other cast events, this is something special just for third shift cast members and it really shows that our leaders care about us.”

As mentioned, this is not the only exclusive event for cast members that Disneyland hosts. It has several unique events throughout the year exclusively for cast members, and those events range from previews of new attractions and entertainment at the parks to different after-hours events. Each is one-of-a-kind, and each shows appreciation for all the hard work cast members put into their job.

Through hosting special events such as these, Disneyland proves how much it values the hard work and efforts of its cast members. Despite the Disney magic, the parks cannot run themselves. Without the thousands of cast members working together, there would be no Disneyland, so be sure to thank a cast member next time you are in the parks.
