New Lion King Restaurant and More Announced for Disney’s New Cruise Ship

For its newest ship, Disney Cruise Line announced that there will be a new restaurant inspired by The Lion King and more exciting new additions inspired by favorite Disney heroes.

Disney previously revealed the theme of this newest ship, the Disney Destiny, which will be highlighting a variety of Disney, Pixar, and Marvel characters in its various experiences and setting sail in 2025. Disney Cruise Line has hinted at the stories and characters we could see featured on the ship, and now they have released news of some experiences that will be featured on the ship. More announcements are coming for the new cruise ships the next two days also.

“For the Disney Destiny, we will introduce brand-new cruise experiences inspired by the legends and legacies of some of Disney’s most iconic heroes and villains,” said Sharon Siskie, senior vice president and general manager, Disney Cruise Line. “From the dining rooms to the staterooms and everywhere in between, guests aboard our new ship will be surrounded by extraordinary storytelling paired with the signature service and family-fun adventures that are hallmarks of a Disney Cruise vacation.”

New Restaurant Inspired by The Lion King

Pride Lands: Feast of The Lion King

On the Disney Destiny, there will be a new dining experience exclusive to the ship called Pride Lands: Feast of the Lion King which will celebrate the music of the beloved film. The venue of the dining experience will be inspired by the African savanna, with “unique depictions of animals and nature brought to life through lighting and special effects.” Part of the magic of the experience will be brought to life with large windows that will turn from sunrises to sunsets throughout the meal, and at the center of the restaurant will be tiered risers mimicking the look of African drums.

An ensemble of live musicians and storytellers will provide music from the soundtrack as guests dine. At intervals throughout the meal, they will share songs from The Lion King “using authentic African instruments and theatrical props to represent the story and characters.”

The dining experience will feature several favorite songs from The Lion King, including the following:

  • Productions of “Circle of Life” and “Hakuna Matata”
  • A mash-up of “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King” and “Be Prepared,” a fun take that highlights the hero-villain dynamic of the story
  • An instrumental version of “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” paired with a beautiful interpretive dance
  • A moving rendition of “He Lives in You” from the sequel film and Broadway show

In addition to the exciting new Lion King restaurant, Disney Cruise Line also announced a few other heroes-inspired experiences, including a new sweets shop inspired by Edna Mode!

New Edna Mode-Inspired Sweets Shop

Edna Á La Mode Sweets

Another new addition to the Disney Destiny will be a new sweets shop inspired by this favorite character from The Incredibles. This confectionery will be called Edna Á La Mode Sweets. The shop will be inspired by the “Auntie Edna” short film, and Edna's sewing equipment is repurposed for sweet-making.

Edna Á La Mode Sweets will feature handmade gelato, ice cream, cookies, candies, and specialty treats, and the space itself will be themed with bolts of fabric and costume models. There will also be sculptures of Edna and Jack-Jack, seen in the concept artwork above, for guests to take a photo with.

New Heroes-Themed Cafes for Disney Destiny

Disney Destiny newest cruise ship

Disney Cruise Line also announced two walk-up cafes that will be available just off the Grand Hall, the central hub of the Disney Destiny. These cafes will serve a selection of coffee, tea, specialty beverages, and snacks for guests to enjoy. Café Megara will pay homage to the film Hercules, with a vibrant “Greco disco” design, while Café Merida will be inspired by the film Brave with a Celtic-centered design.

Disney Cruise Line also shared some details on the staterooms that guests will stay at on the Disney Destiny. Most will have Disney Cruise Line’s split-bath concept, and many will have the option for a connecting door between staterooms. Concierge guests will receive dedicated service and the ability to access exclusive areas and amenities, like a concierge lounge and private sun deck. Among the concierge accommodations will be four royal suites inspired by “Hercules” and “The Incredibles.” See the concept art above!
