Disneyland Porto’s Bakery Opening Gets Closer as Key Move is Made to Ready Restaurant Space

One of the most highly anticipated additions to Downtown Disney is Porto's Bakery, a popular Southern California location known for its California-Cuban-inspired offerings. As progress has continued on Downtown Disney's transformation over the past few months with the opening of a new security entrance, three new Mexican restaurant concepts, and Din Tai Fung, fans have anxiously been awaiting news of when they can expect Porto's to open at Disneyland.

Porto's will eventually be taking the current spot of Earl of Sandwich, but construction has not yet begun to transform the space. However, a recent development has given us an indication that work may soon begin to prepare the current location for the opening of Porto's.

Disney Makes Key Move for Porto's Bakery Timeline

Disney previously announced that there would be a temporary Earl of Sandwich pop-up location opened at the west end of Downtown Disney. The exterior of the pop-up location has been visible for several months near Star Wars Trading Post, but only now is the location officially open. The restaurant will serve “delicious sandwiches, handcrafted wraps, salads and more” according to the the Instagram post from the official Downtown Disney account.

This is a step in the right direction for Porto's, as we're anticipating that construction may finally be ready to move forward to transform the current Earl of Sandwich space. As part of the Downtown Disney expansion, Earl of Sandwich will be getting a two-story permanent location with quick service on the ground level and a table-service gastropub on the upper level.

The opening of the Earl of Sandwich pop-up location suggests that progress is moving forward for the Porto's timeline, meaning we may soon hear some more concrete details about next steps for the current Earl of Sandwich location closing for work to begin on the space.

Another clue indicating that progress is moving forward is that Cast Members were recently given Porto's Bakery treats as part of the “Road to the 70th” backstage party kicking off preparations for the 7oth anniversary of Disneyland which will take place next year. We're looking forward to hearing more news about what this move means for Porto's and when we can expect it to open!

Permits indicate that the entire Earl of Sandwich building will be torn down to expand the footprint of that space.
