Disneyland is constantly growing and changing with new attractions, celebrations, and offerings. 2026 is a notable year for the resort as it makes progress on its major expansion that will introduce new rides and shifts in infrastructure. In 2026, certain Disneyland experiences will temporarily go away, while others will permanently leave.

runDisney Will Go on Hiatus

runDisney only recently came back to the Disneyland Resort following the return of the Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend in 2024, but they have announced that these events will be pausing due to upcoming construction impacts.

After the 2026 Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend from January 29–February 1, 2026, the runDisney races at Disneyland will be placed on hiatus. We are not yet clear on how long this hiatus will last. We know that construction will continue to impact different areas of the resort, particularly Disney California Adventure, in the next few years, so it’s possible that we may not see these events for a while.
runDisney events will still be offered at Disney World throughout 2026. See all of the reasons why you should do a runDisney race here, and some of the reasons why you may want to avoid a runDisney race.
Early Entry Will Be Retiring

In early 2026, Disneyland will retire the Early Entry perk for Disneyland Resort Hotel guests. This perk gives on-site hotel guests 30-minute early access to select attractions, dining, and shopping locations at a designated theme park each day of their visit. This goes into effect on January 5, 2026. This is a major change that could potentially catch hotel guests off guard if they’re not aware of it.
Starting on this date, Early Entry will no longer be offered, and guests will receive Lightning Lane entry to one Lightning Lane Multi Pass attraction, offered once during their stay. We recently got new details about when hotel guests will be able to book this Lightning Lane during their stay.
Monsters Inc. Ride Closing

Monsters Inc., Mike and Sulley to the Rescue! in Disney California Adventure is permanently closing in early 2026 to make way for the new Avatar destination coming to the park. This new addition will replace a portion of the current Hollywood Backlot area.
When Disney first shared this information, they said that the project is still in the early stages of development and that more details on the construction timeframes would be shared later. We do not yet have an exact closing date, but “early” 2026 would include the months of January, February, or March. We anticipate that February or March is the more likely of these.
This does have a notable impact, particularly on those visiting with young kids, as Disney California Adventure does not have an overwhelming number of rides targeted towards this age group.
We do not anticipate seeing the Avatar destination opening until closer to the end of the decade, but we know that work will begin relatively soon. You can see our discussion of when Disneyland’s new rides will likely open here. That’s a helpful article for people thinking ahead to when new rides will arrive.
Season of the Force Not Returning

Disneyland just announced its calendar of special events for 2026, but one event that has returned for the past couple of years was left out of the lineup. In 2023 and 2024, Season of the Force featured special foods and merch, entertainment, rare character appearances, and more.
At the time of writing, it appears that Season of the Force will not be returning in 2026. This change makes sense, as in order to align the celebration with the opening of the new Millennium Falcon mission and new Mandalorian and Grogu movie, they would have had to shift the celebration back by a few weeks. The Disneyland Star Wars Nite parties will still take place in April and May, with fewer nights than last year. See all of the 2026 opening dates for new Disneyland rides and additions here.
Disneyland teased that there will still be Star Wars offerings during this time, including Hyperspace Mountain (which returns for a limited time beginning April 28), so we expect that at least some of the celebration’s offerings may return on a smaller scale.
Private Hotel Entrance Closing

Another big change coming in January is that Disneyland is permanently closing one of the private theme park entrances for Disneyland Resort Hotel guests.
Starting January 5, 2026, the same day that Early Entry is going away, the Pixar Place Hotel entrance will be closing for the foreseeable future. When originally announcing this news, Disneyland shared that the Pixar Place Hotel was underutilized by Pixar Place Hotel guests, and they have no plans to reopen it.
This closure mostly affects Pixar Place Hotel guests, who will have to use the Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa gate into Disney California Adventure. It also removes a convenient exit for guests staying in certain wings of Disney’s Grand Californian and off-site hotels on the Disneyland Drive side of the parks, like Best Western Pavilions Plus or the Westin Anaheim.

Pixar Pals Parade Not Returning

The Disneyland 70th anniversary celebration is returning in 2026, bringing back entertainment and offerings that have been paused during the holidays, like the Paint the Night parade, “The Celebrate Happy Cavalcade,” Wondrous Journeys, and Mickey and friends in their 70th outfits.
One entertainment offering, the daytime Better Together: A Pixar Pals Celebration! parade in Disney California Adventure is not returning in 2026. The parade ended its run in early August this year.
We anticipate that this may have something to do with the construction of the Coco ride. We know that the entrance to the ride will be between Paradise Park and Pixar Pier, where the parade gate is located today. We are figuring that during the construction, the parade gate may be moved. The perimeter road of Disney California Adventure may take over what is currently the sidewalk area that runs from Disney’s Grand Californian out to Katella, which makes a Mickey head (from an aerial view).
We do know that, according to Disneyland, parades will continue at the park. So, whichever way, they will need to make some adjustments to accommodate them.
A Magic Key Tier Will Retire in 2026

Last but not least, Disneyland will replace a Magic Key tier in early 2026 with a comparable new pass type that has fewer summer blockout dates. The new Explore Key will replace the current Enchant Key Pass when it debuts, and the Enchant Key will no longer be available for sale or renewal. The Explore Key goes on sale alongside the Imagine Key on January 13, 2026.
If you are an Enchant Key holder, you can keep using your pass until its expiration date, and if you renew on or after January 13, 2026, you can opt to renew into a different pass type or switch to the Explore Key. Disneyland recently revealed the blockout dates for the new Explore Key pass type here.
