Popular Disneyland Restaurant Closure Delayed, Pushing Back Work on Highly-Anticipated New Location

Downtown Disney has recently welcomed some great new restaurants and shops as part of its ongoing transformation, and more new additions are in the works, including the highly anticipated Porto's Bakery and a new two-story Earl of Sandwich.

Porto's Bakery will be an expansive new location built on the site of the temporary Earl of Sandwich/former La Brea Bakery. Since the Earl of Sandwich pop-up opened on the west side of Downtown Disney and construction of the permanent two-story location has kicked off, many months have passed. Earlier this week, Disneyland shared when the temporary location would be closing, but now this closure has been delayed. Details below…

Earl of Sandwich Closing Delayed

Disneyland has confirmed that the Earl of Sandwich closure has been delayed. Earl of Sandwich Tavern and Earl of Sandwich quick-service were both supposed to close this weekend, but this will no longer be the case.

Due to the scale of this project, there are still some steps left before construction can begin. We recently got an indication of the restaurant's massive scale from the permit that Disneyland filed to demolish the current building and two ticket booths.

In a news release from last year, Porto's announced that their seventh location would be “coming to Downtown Disney in Anaheim in 2025,” but this timeline is looking less likely the longer that construction is delayed.

This will be the first Porto's location with sit-down table service and a full bar, as well as a quick-service format at the Bakery and Cafe (that we imagine is like a standard Porto's location) where visitors can pick up treats. In the meantime, Earl of Sandwich will continue to operate in its temporary location for some more time this summer, in addition to the pop-up on the west side of Downtown Disney. 

Construction is coming along for the permanent two-story Earl of Sandwich location that will feature an Earl of Sandwich on the ground level and a new table-service concept called The Carnaby Tavern. You can see details about this new two-story Earl of Sandwich location and concept art here!
