Top Disneyland Ride Closing For Month-Long Refurbishment, CROWDS Warning, Popular Event Kicks Off, and More News ‘This Week’

Welcome back to Mickey Visit Disneyland This Week! Each week at Mickey Visit, we unearth Disneyland news and tips you could easily miss completely. We have all of the essential dates for your visit. This week, we have news about a major ride closure, after-hours Halloween parties kicking off, a crowds warning, and more.

These news and date updates provide the most important information for your visit every single week, whether you are a frequent visitor or visiting for the first time in years. We cut through the noise to hone in on what dates and news matter for this week. One Big Thing in Disneyland News – Oogie Boogie Bash Parties Kick Off

This week, the after-hours Oogie Boogie Bash Halloween parties will kick off at Disney California Adventure on August 17! These parties are actually starting a few days before the Halloween celebration at Disneyland begins. The parties will take place on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays through October 31.

Tickets are still on sale, but there are only a couple of party dates left now. If you want to attend this year, you need to act quickly. See all information on 2025 Oogie Boogie Bash dates and tickets here, including dates and prices for the parties. If you are not attending Oogie Boogie Bash, then make sure you're aware of the dates Disney California Adventure is closing early. The park closes on event nights at 6 pm. If you have a park hopper ticket, you can hop over to Disneyland Park for the evening, but if you have a 1 Park Per Day ticket for Disney California Adventure, you'll be forced to leave the park early. If you have 1 Park Per Day tickets, you should switch your reservation to Disneyland Park on Oogie Boogie Bash days.

The parties this year will include all of the regular highlights like the Frightfully Fun Parade, Villain's Grove attraction, rare character appearances, and Villain Treat Trails featuring two new Oogie Boogie Bash villains this year.

Important Disneyland Dates This Week

• Radiator Springs Racers closes for refurbishment next Monday on August 18. This closure is expected to last for a little over a month. During this time, they will be doing routine work on the attraction and making improvements, including updating all of the show lighting to LED, and implementing audio, video, and network updates throughout the attraction.
• Oogie Boogie Bash will close Disney California Adventure early at 6 pm on Sunday, August 17. From this point onwards through the Halloween season, party nights will take place on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays (with the exception of October 31, which is a Friday).
• Several Disneyland Halloween foods will become available at Disney California Adventure starting Sunday, August 17! Some of the new items include a Pumpkin Pie Churro at Cozy Cone Motel, an Asgardian Apple Cold Brew at Pym Test Kitchen, and more. These will be released to align with the day that Oogie Boogie Bash parties kick off at Disney California Adventure. Also, according to Theme Park IQ on Instagram, debuting on this day (for the first time ever!) is Walt's Chili Bread Bowl in a Mickey-shaped Bread Bowl at Aunt Cass Café.

• We expect a surge in crowd levels at the parks this week. Today, on August 11, Imagine Key holders will be let back into the parks after the months-long summer blockout, increasing crowds. August 14 is the final day of the validity window for the 70th anniversary ticket offer, so you can expect an uptick in crowds in the days leading up to this as people get their last visit in. Overall, you can expect that this week will be a little more crowded. The Pokémon World Championships are held at the nearby Anaheim Convention Center this upcoming weekend from August 15 – August 17, so this may have an impact on crowds as well.
• The Incredicoaster and Redwood Creek Challenge Trail will both be reopening from their closures on Friday, August 15.
• There are a couple of special perks for Magic Key holders offered from August 13-18, as well as a new novelty that will be available starting this week. You can see more details about those in the “Magic Key Benefits Continue in August” section below.

Key Disneyland News You Missed

• A ride closure for a hidden gem attraction was added to the calendar, but it shouldn't impact a popular nighttime spectacular. You can read about the closure here.
• Disneyland’s “Porch Potato” Frank, who was a frequent presence on Main Street, has sadly passed away. See the sentiments shared by his family and Parks Chairman Josh D'Amaro in our separate article here.
• The Disneyland Resort has reduced the locations offering Mobile Merchandise Checkout from 12 stores to 3 stores. This option is currently only offered at the Disneyland Emporium, World of Disney in Downtown Disney, and Elias & Co. at Disney California Adventure.
• Looking ahead to next week, starting August 19, mobile ordering is coming back to Adorable Snowman Frosted Treats. This is good news, as lines for this location can get long, especially during warmer days in the summer.
• Next week, there will be a unique Disney PhotoPass Magic Shot featuring Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas with a complimentary digital download. This will be offered starting August 22 through September 30 from 1-7 pm daily in New Orleans Square.
• Three new Disneyland Park ride closures were added to the refurbishment calendar. You can read about those and the closure dates in our separate article here.
• Construction on two new Disneyland rides finally went vertical last week! See details about this milestone in our separate article here. A large crane is now present at the construction site, lifting the steel columns into place.
• Disney made 6 big announcements last week! Here is what we learned and why the news matters to theme park fans.
• Disneyland dropped new Halloween merchandise last week, and huge crowds descended to buy popular items. You can see photos of the new merch in our separate article here.
• The Haunted Mansion has temporarily closed to transform into its “Haunted Mansion Holiday” overlay. The ride will be closed until the start of the Halloween celebration. You can see other current closures in the “New Disneyland Ride Closures This Week” section below.

Magic Key Benefits Continue in August

• There will be a few special perks for Magic Key holders this week from August 13 to August 18! There will be a Magic Key-branded tote giveaway, and Magic Key holders can take advantage of a significant discount on their Lightning Lane Multi Pass purchase. Magic Key holders will need to join a virtual queue to claim their free 70th anniversary Magic Key-branded tote bag. During the same window of time, Magic Key holders can enjoy a more subsantial 50% off their Lightning Lane Multi Pass purchase.
• Starting August 17, a special Kuzco Poison Sipper will be available just for Magic Key holders at select quick-service locations throughout the Disneyland Resort. You can see it pictured above!
• Magic Key holders can find a 70th Celebration Postcard collection with a special Magic Key design from Disney Vacation Club, available at any Disney Vacation Club Discovery Desk. These are available while supplies last.
• During the 70th anniversary celebration, there is special Magic Key 70th-themed merchandise available! New Magic Key items will be released periodically. Right now, offerings include a 70th Magic Key T-shirt, 70th Magic Key Pin, and 70th Magic Key Lug Bag.
• Magic Key holders can enjoy special food offerings, including the Box O' Sliders at Galactic Grill and the new Neapolitan Sampler at The Golden Horseshoe, available for purchase on the Disneyland app. The Neapolitan Sampler offering features three sample-size ice cream floats, one of each of the following: Coca-Cola Cherry Float, Sprite Float, and Barq’s Root Beer Float.
• For the Pixar Putt mini golf course, Magic Key holders get a special discounted rate of $25 per Magic Key Holder.

Disneyland Operational Updates

• Disneyland has longer hours of operation this week, with Disneyland Park open until 12 AM every day and Disney California Adventure open until 10 PM.
• Disney California Adventure will close early at 6 pm on August 17 for Oogie Boogie Bash.
• The Disneyland 70th anniversary show, World of Color: Happiness!, runs twice every night at Disney California Adventure.
• At Disneyland Park, Wondrous Journeys shows with fireworks every night of the week, along with Fantasmic!. Shadows of Memory: A Skywalker Saga will have two showtimes a night. Paint the Night runs twice a night, and The Celebrate Happy Calvacade runs twice during the day.

What We're Thinking About This Week

• Emily is excited about the Halloween foods that debut at Disney California Adventure this week. There are some interesting new options this year!
• Gavin is thrilled to see that Disney has begun vertical construction on the two new Avengers Campus attractions. I am trying to wait patiently as they build these two attractions, but I am quite anxious for this major improvement to the area.
• Lindsay loves the Halloween season especially since it means the holiday season around the corner! She cannot wait to attend Oogie Boogie Bash this year.

Disneyland Crowd Calendar This Week

We anticipate that crowds will spike this week due to the Imagine Key summer blockout lift and the end of the 70th anniversary special ticket offer validity window. We will likely see crowds start to calm down from Friday to Sunday after the last day of the ticket special. Looking ahead to next week, you can expect a stretch of below-normal crowds leading up to the start of the Halloween celebration.

New Disneyland Ride Closures This Week

Radiator Springs Racers closes for refurbishment next Monday, August 18.

Here are some of the other current ride closures that are continuing into this week:

• • • The Haunted Mansion is closed for refurbishment
    • Redwood Creek Challenge Trail is closed for refurbishment (reopening this week)
    • Star Tours – The Adventures Continue is closed for refurbishment (reopening date announced)
    • Casey Jr. Circus Train is closed for refurbishment
    • Storybook Land Canal Boats is closed for refurbishment
    • Incredicoaster is closed for refurbishment (reopening this week)

Heads up! Reservations Open for Disneyland Dining / Park Reservations

For any trips before the below dates, you should consider booking park reservations and dining reservations.

• • • Today is the 60-day window for Disneyland dining reservations for October 10, 2025. 
    • Today is the 180-day window for making Disneyland theme park reservations for February 7, 2026. This applies to most non-Annual Pass tickets.
    • For Magic Key Annual Pass Holders, the 90-day window from today to make theme park reservations is November 9, 2025.

• • • Today, the Lightning Lane Multi Pass service costs $36 if you purchase it when you arrive.
    • For the two Lightning Lane Single Pass rides, the cost is $28 for Rise of the Resistance and $17 for Radiator Springs Racers.
