Walt Disney World has begun testing a new route for the Express Monorail, which will take guests from the Transportation and Ticket Center to Magic Kingdom Station. The route typically always goes in a counter-clockwise direction.

As part of this new testing, the Express monorail is traveling in a clockwise direction, which is the same direction the Resort Monorail Loop travels in. We have heard that this route change allows Disney World to swap out monorail trains when technical issues occur and cause fewer disruptions for guests.

The change has not impacted the Resort Monorail or EPCOT Monorail lines. The change adds about 1 minute to the journey from the Transportation and Ticket Center to the Magic Kingdom. The trip back at the end of the park visit is now one minute shorter.

Disney World Monorail Transportation

The Disney World Monorail System includes three separate lines that travel to the theme parks and nearby resort hotels.

The Resort Monorail runs clockwise, making stops at Magic Kingdom park, Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, and Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC).

The EPCOT Monorail and the Express Monorail both originate at the TTC and offer express round-trip service to EPCOT and Magic Kingdom.

If you have a park hopper ticket, using the Disney World monorail is a great way to park hop between Magic Kingdom and EPCOT. As for hours of operation, the Resort Monorail and Express Monorail begin operating 30 minutes before Magic Kingdom opens and stop one hour after park closing. The EPCOT Monorail begins operating 30 minutes before EPCOT opens and stops 2 hours after EPCOT closes.
