Knowing how to navigate Lightning Lane Multi Pass is essential for making the most of your park time at Disney. Beyond knowing the basics of Lightning Lane Multi Pass, however, there is an expert tip that you might not know about. We will take you through the details of this tip that will help you maximize your time at the parks! This tip is applicable to the systems at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World.
You can see our guide to Lightning Lane Multi Pass at Disneyland and Lightning Lane Multi Pass at Walt Disney World for everything you need to know about utilizing this service. Lightning Lane Multi Pass Tip You Might Not Know About
One of the most frustrating feelings is going to book your next Lightning Lane and the only options are return times way later in the day that you don't want. If you've found yourself in this situation, you'll be happy to learn that Disney quietly added the ability to modify Lightning Lane reservations. Before this change, guests would need to cancel an existing Lightning Lane reservation they had to book another one. You had to give up the slot you had to try to get a better one if you saw that option.
Disney first introduced this change when the service was still called Genie+ on both coasts. Now, the name has been changed and the entire setup of the system for Walt Disney World has been changed. Even with that said, this feature and the process we outline below is critical for securing the best possible ride return times. Here's how we use it.
You can modify existing reservations without having to give up the current plan with the Modify Experience option.
The ability to modify the plan isn't the most amazing feature by itself, but combine it with the fact that frequently earlier return times for attractions do open up and you've got a great way to get on rides faster.
You can keep refreshing the app to see if there are earlier return times for Lightning Lane reservations. A critical note for this is that you are only able to modify the reservation and see/select other attractions within that same theme park. This makes sense for Walt Disney World, but at Disneyland, we would like to see them broaden this feature to allow for you to modify the reservation to pick a Lightning Lane slot for either Disneyland Park or Disney California Adventure Park regardless of which park your current Lightning Lane selection is currently.
During a recent busy Saturday at the parks, I got a Lightning Lane reservation for 5 pm for Space Mountain, and it was only 10:45 am. I was frustrated that if I kept that return time we wouldn't be able to make another Lightning Lane selection for another two hours and our return would be so late in the day. So, here's how I utilized this modify option.
I clicked the modify plan button as seen above and began refreshing this screen for a couple of tries. On maybe the fourth or fifth try a Space Mountain time popped up for 12 pm for our group. I immediately grabbed this, and we were able to get on that ride much earlier than the original 5 pm time we had.
Be warned: you do have to be quick to grab the reservation, as it can disappear for the most popular attractions before you even click it! Generally, this tip works best when you are maneuvering from mid-morning until mid to late afternoon.
Especially during crowded seasons when return times are quickly pushed further into the day, this tip can help you secure an ideal return time. See our Disney World crowd calendar and Disneyland crowd calendar for more information about the busiest seasons of the year at the parks!
We talk about this Lightning Lane feature and our other top tips for making the most of the service in our Lightning Lane Multi Pass YouTube video (from when the service was formerly called Genie+). You can see our guide to Lightning Lane Multi Pass at Disneyland on Youtube below.
