Disney Announces Coco 2, Plus a Critical Creative Returning to Make it

Disney has announced that the beloved Pixar film Coco will be getting a sequel! We have just received this announcement from the Disney annual shareholder meeting.

We've recently seen how Disney has made a big effort to invest in adding new Coco experiences across the parks and Disney Cruise Line, from a reimagined Disneyland Plaza de la Familia show to the first-ever Coco ride coming to Disney California Adventure and the new Coco dinner show onboard the Disney Treasure. Now, Disney is continuing this fan-favorite story on the big screen with another film!

At The Walt Disney Company’s Annual Meeting of Shareholders, Disney announced that Coco will be getting a sequel! The Coco 2 film is currently in development at Pixar Animation Studios. Interestingly, Pixar originally mentioned that the film would be released in 2029, but they removed this detail from their announcement.

Lee Unkrich, who directed the original film, will be returning to Pixar to direct Coco 2. Disney shared that the team behind the sequel includes Unkrich (Coco, Toy Story 3), co-director Adrian Molina (Coco), and Oscar-winning Mark Nielsen (Toy Story 4, Inside Out 2) as producer.

CEO Bob Iger shared, “While the film is just in the initial stages, we know it will be full of humor, heart and adventure. And we can’t wait to share more soon.”
