Disney Lightning Lane Loophole That Feels Like Cheating Could Go Away Soon

There has been a loophole active in Walt Disney World‘s Lightning Lane system for over a year. With the new year coming soon and more people actively taking advantage of it, the loophole might not be available in the system for much longer.

This Lightning Lane Multi Pass loophole honestly feels like cheating when you take advantage of it because so few people know it exists. Like any “cheat code” like this, it’s not always guaranteed, but those who understand how to use it have really benfitted. At Mickey Visit, we bring you the latest Disney news, including all the recent Disney Parks news announcements from this past week and changes to the most popular bar at Disney World.

Lightning Lane Multi Pass at Disney World

Lightning Lane Multi Pass at Walt Disney World is priced starting at $15 per person, per day after tax, with peak dates reaching as high as $39 per day. Most days fall closer to the $25 range, and it is uncommon to see the Multi Pass offered at the lowest price point.

Guests staying at a Walt Disney World resort hotel have the advantage of purchasing Lightning Lane up to seven days before their arrival, while off-site guests can buy it three days ahead of their park visit. This gives on-site guests priority access when advance Lightning Lane booking windows open.

Lightning Lane Multi Pass can be purchased in advance of your trip, allowing guests to reserve up to three Lightning Lane ride selections per day ahead of time. Available return times vary, giving flexibility when planning your day. This allows you to arrive at the parks already knowing you have three Lightning Lane reservations secured.

After entering the park, guests can continue to book additional Lightning Lane selections as they use their existing ones through the My Disney Experience app. Each time a Lightning Lane reservation is redeemed, another booking becomes available. But here’s the catch: your Lightning Lane selections are assigned to specific one-hour windows. You have to wait until this one-hour window to begin redeeming them, and you have to make it within that one-hour time in order to redeem them.

Or at least that’s what the app says, but there’s been a loophole that many folks on social media have been talking about for quite some time…

Lightning Lane Loophole Gives Maximum Flexibility

As you can see on Disney World’s My Experience App, you are given one-hour time slots to redeem your Lightning Lanes. If you do not redeem your selection, that Lightning Lane will disappear from your account once the time is up, and you can book another attraction.

However, according to many reports online, your Lightning Lane time is still active to be redeemed three hours after it expires! There is a three-hour grace period built into Disney World’s system. From there, it really depends on the cast member, as they can see on their end that you are arriving late. Some cast members might ask you why you are late, and some might not ask any questions at all. This is why we hesitate to call this a strategy to utilize and instead think of it more like a loophole.

This can be beneficial in just general practice if you are late because you were caught up in a dinner reservation, had transportation issues, or were stuck on another ride. These are all the reasons why it’s likely the system still sees your Lightning Lane even if it disappears from the app. It gives guests some grace period and a bit of goodwill, which is just great customer service.

This is also helpful information with guests with disabilities who might no longer qualify for Disability Access Service (DAS), and knowing you have a bit of wiggle room could be a big stress reliever.

Disney World Lightning Lane Loophole Creates a Risky Strategy

Remys at EPCOT

For guests who want to utilize this loophole to stack Lightning Lanes, this cheat code essentially makes it possible to hold up to nine Lightning Lanes at one time, even though the service officially says you can only hold three. This would happen by booking your three advance selections, not showing up, booking an additional three selections, not showing up, and then finally booking three more. If those prior six selections are honored, your account can redeem nine Lightning Lanes. The other six are existing off the app, in the memory of Disney World’s system.

Why would this be beneficial? If guests wanted to try and move between rides without downtime, you could essentially let your first three Lightning Lanes expire and then go to all three at once. Of course, while also booking new Lightning Lanes. And if you wanted to be really risky, you could let six expire and then book three new ones to essentially be “unofficially” holding nine reservations.

We’ve seen reports online of guests who have successfully done just that. We have also seen reports of guests who were turned away by cast members, especially for more high-profile attractions like Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. So this is really a “your mileage may vary” type of situation.

This is why I call this a risky strategy. I personally wouldn’t recommend this, especially to newcomers, because what if you end up out of luck, since it is all at the cast member’s discretion? But it’s worth knowing about if you like to live dangerously, especially if Disney World ends up removing this loophole soon.
