Disney World Lightning Lane Advance Passes Not Available for International Guests

Lightning Lane Multi Pass is the name of the replacement for Genie+ at Walt Disney World that will allow guests to make three advance ride reservations for each day of their visit. This new skip the line service blends elements of the old FastPass+ system with the Genie+ system as a response to guest feedback asking for the return of advance ride selections.

This new announcement drastically changes the skip the line service at Walt Disney World which continues to create a bit of frustration amongst guests. As we were pouring through the details of Lightning Lane Multi Pass/Single Pass we discovered that advance selections are NOT available for all guests!

As of now, international guests will not be permitted to make advance Lightning Lane passes. Keep reading to see why and our tips for getting around this situation!

International Guests Cannot Purchase Advance Lightning Lane Passes

EPCOT Partner Statue

International guests are not able to make advance purchases for Walt Disney World’s Lightning Lane passes which essentially prohibits them from making any advance ride selections.

The change of Genie+ to Lightning Lane Multi Pass allows guests to make three ride reservations for each day of their park visit. This also applies to the Lightning Lane Single Pass (previously Individual Lightning Lane selections) with guests able to make two of these per day for their park visit.

Once an international guest arrives in the US, they will be able to purchase and book their Lightning Lane passes. However, this does put them at a big disadvantage behind other guests on it.

Why Can’t International Guests Book Lightning Lane Passes?

Expedition Everest

We do not know for sure but it’s clearly due to some conflicting US law or EU regulations that prohibit guests from using the My Disney Experience App or agreeing to the Terms & Conditions.

We do not know for sure and the main reason that’s been explained by Disney is that the app is meant for US use only.

This isn’t the only service that isn’t available to international guests. International guests also cannot apply for DAS (Disability Access Service) in advance and have to wait until they’re in the United States.

Lightning Lane Multi Pass/Single Pass replaces Genie+ on July 24th 2024 so we may get more information from Disney for international guests as the date grows near.

Tips for International Guests Using Lightning Lane Passes

Pop Century Resort

The best tip I have for international guests visiting Walt Disney World is to book through a US based travel agent that includes trip planning services for their customers. Your travel agent would then be able to access your My Disney Experience account and make those Lightning Lane passes on your behalf.

Our trusted travel partner, Get Away Today, has years of experience helping guests plan Walt Disney World vacations. I highly recommend getting a free Walt Disney World quote and getting in touch with their team to see how they can help you navigate your trip as an international guest.

Another option is to get a VPN (virtual private network) which encrypts your internet connection and hides your IP address so that apps and websites view your web traffic as coming from a different location. So using a VPN could be a way to mask your location as being in the US even if you are an international guest.
