Monstropolis is under construction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This area replaces the part of the park formerly known as Muppets Courtyard, including Muppet*Vision 3D, and expands the park’s footprint into what was previously part of the cast member parking lot.
The story of the Monstropolis land takes place after the events of Monsters, Inc., as theme park guests visit the city on H.U.M.A.N. Day. This is a cultural exchange holiday that stands for “Humans Understand Monsters Are Nice.” The day has been set up by the Department of Human Relations. Imagineers are going to great lengths to create details that help Monstropolis feel like a real place, including designing new monster critters to populate the streets and buildings.

Monsters, Inc. Doors Roller Coaster
As previously announced, a new suspended roller coaster will take riders into the door vault of the Monsters, Inc. factory, just like Mike and Sulley do at the climax of the film. This idea has been on many Disney theme park fans’ wish lists for a long time, and we anticipate it being a big hit with guests.
The coaster is under construction, with the first piece of its track recently installed.
New Monstropolis Attraction Announced
Joining the doors roller coaster in Monstropolis at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be an indoor attraction, located inside the theater previously home to Muppet*Vision 3D. Disney has teased this concept for a while, but hadn’t revealed full details until now.
The former Muppet*Vision venue will be known as The Glob, home to a new show called Welcome to Monstropolis.
Monsters in the show will introduce humans to Monstropolis and highlight how similar monsters and humans really are. Sulley’s been working on a small, homespun show, but Mike has a few surprises in store.
Monstropolis Dining Revealed
Disney previously announced that Harryhausen’s, a sushi restaurant seen in the Monsters, Inc. movie, would be recreated for the Monstropolis land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Imagineers shared new artwork for this table service restaurant, which replaces the former home of Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano.
Disney revealed a new quick service restaurant coming to Monstropolis, called Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza. We assume this will be located in the former home of PizzeRizzo.
Other stops in Monstropolis will include a shop called the Scareporium and an establishment called the Monsters University Alumni Club.
Opening Timeline
Monstropolis will open in phases. The city thoroughfare, Welcome to Monstropolis, and Harryhausen’s will open in 2027. The roller coaster will follow later.
