The largest expansion in Magic Kingdom history is currently under construction, bringing new rides based on Disney Villains and Pixar’s Cars. While some of the project is a true expansion of Magic Kingdom‘s footprint, other portions replace existing attractions and experiences. To accommodate construction, many Magic Kingdom staples have closed, and another will shutter its doors soon.
A longtime Walt Disney World dining location will permanently close to prepare for the expansion of Magic Kingdom. We have details on when this change will happen and where to find this location’s familiar menu items elsewhere in the park. Mickey Visit brings you the latest Disney news and planning resources, including Imagineers’ updates on Disney’s first Lion King ride and reflections on Disney’s operations changing and Orlando coming together after tragedies 10 years ago.

Frontierland Dining Location Closing in Magic Kingdom

Walt Disney Imagineering is creating Piston Peak National Park, a new area in Frontierland at Magic Kingdom, with two new rides based on Pixar’s Cars. See our deep dive into what to expect from Piston Peak here.
The real estate that Piston Peak National Park will occupy was formerly home to a portion of Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America, both of which permanently closed in 2025. Disney has already destroyed all traces of both of those entities. The construction site is currently a mass of dirt and the beginnings of what might be a retainer wall.

At the southwest edge of the construction site’s boundary, along the Magic Kingdom parade route and directly across from Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe, is a snack window named Westward Ho Refreshments.
Westward Ho Refreshments will likely permanently close on June 22, 2026, according to the Disney World calendar. Its final day of operating hours is displayed as June 21, and Disney recently filed a notice of commencement with the state of Florida for construction at this location.
Given that the same pattern led to the permanent closure of the nearby Big Al’s merchandise stand, we can assume Westward Ho Refreshments will likewise close on June 22.
The closure of Westward Ho Refreshments will, presumably, clear space for Disney to extend the construction site further into Frontierland, ever so slightly. This may lead to a reconfiguration of the existing construction walls in that area and new traffic patterns.
During breakfast hours, Westward Ho Refreshments serves biscuit sandwiches and Mickey-shaped cinnamon rolls. For lunch and dinner, the menu features mini corn dogs and jalapeño poppers. Bacon skewers, Joffrey’s Coffee products, and Coca-Cola fountain beverages are served during all hours.

A churro stand is currently adjacent to Westward Ho Refreshments. Disney filed a notice of commencement for the churro stand at the same time as Westward Ho Refreshment’s and Big Al’s.
However, its small stature as a churro stand rather than a larger dining location with a name means the churro stand and its operating hours are not listed on Disney World’s calendar. Therefore, we can’t quite verify the fate of the churro stand, but the writing seems to be on the wall.
Guests looking for some of the featured menu items from Westward Ho and the Frontierland churro cart can continue to find them at the following locations in Magic Kingdom:
- Biscuit sandwiches: Golden Oak Outpost in Frontierland
- Bacon skewers: Golden Oak Outpost in Frontierland
- Mickey-shaped cinnamon rolls: Main Street Bakery on Main Street, U.S.A.
- Mini corn dogs: Casey’s Corner on Main Street, U.S.A.
- Churros: Churro cart in front of the castle, Auntie Gravity’s Galactic Goodies in Tomorrowland, Astrofizz in Tomorrowland
- Mickey pretzels: Pretzel cart in front of the castle, Liberty Square Market, pretzel cart in Storybook Circus, The Lunching Pad in Tomorrowland
The Westward Ho Refreshment snack location in Florida is not to be confused with Westward Ho Trading Co., a pin store at Disneyland in California, making headlines in its own right as Disney changes pin trading rules.
Both the East Coast and West Coast establishments earn their names from Westward Ho the Wagons!, a 1956 Disney film starring Fess Parker, aka Davy Crockett, and several child actors who young audiences would’ve recognized as Mouseketeers from the Mickey Mouse Club.

See what we know so far about what’s coming to Piston Peak National Park and Villains Land, opening at Magic Kingdom in the years to come.
