Disney Just Made a Quiet Change to Hotel Room Booking Process

Walt Disney World just quietly made a change to how guests select their hotel rooms at the Disney resort hotels. This change wasn’t announced in advance, and it’s currently only impacting a few hotels, but it may roll out across all the resorts.

Keep reading for the details on this newest change and how this impacts your freedom to customize your hotel room. Mickey Visit brings you the latest Disney news and planning resources, including an end date for a popular ride overlay and the new EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival 2026 dates.

Disney World Removing View Options for Moderate Resorts

Disney World has just removed the option to customize your room view at select moderate resorts. Previously, when you booked, you would select from options that included labels of pool view, water view, or garden view. This would give guests the option to pick a preference on what they saw when they looked out their window, and would also help determine the location of the building they were placed in.

Now the options have been reduced to standard room, preferred room, or a room with a king bed. There is no longer an option to pick a specific view of the pool, garden, or otherwise. This streamlined booking has been applied to all the moderate resorts, which include Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, and Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside and French Quarter Resort. For deluxe resort hotels, you can still pick your room view preference at the deluxe resort hotels because many of these views will include views of Magic Kingdom and Seven Seas Lagoon, which is a perk many feel is worth paying for.

This actually makes a lot of sense for the moderate resorts at Disney World. These are some of the biggest resorts at Disney World, making the location of your room matter much more. Often, guests would use the description of the room to try to place their room in a favorable spot. Limiting the selection to just two choices, standard or preferred, makes a lot of sense and makes the process much easier. A standard room will be the cheapest option, but might come with a longer walk to the main building and transportation options. A preferred room will instead place guests closer to those areas, for a higher price.

The good news is you can still book a room using this view preference by going through our travel partner’s Disney World booking website. Using our exclusive link also gets you additional deals and discounts just for Mickey Visit readers. The options there remain for picking a specific garden view or pool/water view, if you have strong feelings about those preferences. You can also book by calling 1-855-GET-AWAY. Make sure to ask for the discounted Mickey Visit rate when you call for the additional savings.

Some Room Preferences Still Available

Don’t worry, the option to pick some room preferences remains, like the option to book the recently redesigned Royal Rooms at Disney’s Port Orleans – Riverside. These hotel rooms have been incredibly popular with guests for years due to their Disney Princess-focused color scheme and light-up headboards. To see what these rooms look like now, see our recent story with pictures of the room redesign and the new light-up headboards.

These popular rooms just recently reopened after being closed for a year for updates, and when the rooms reopened, they debuted a new color palette that aligns more closely with the lighter room designs at Port Orleans. While the updated color scheme of the rooms still focuses on Princess Tiana, the details are far more minimalistic in appearance than their previous, bold look.
