Roundup Rodeo BBQ Review- Toy Story Dining at Hollywood Studios

Roundup Rodeo BBQ is the newest restaurant to open in Toy Story Land at Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World. Roundup Rodeo BBQ offers family-style dining with large quantities of food to enjoy like salads, sides, BBQ options, and dessert. Our Roundup Rodeo BBQ review includes everything you need to know about the Toy Story theme, the menu options, and whether I think the value justifies the cost.

While the food at Roundup Rodeo BBQ is great, the theming of this Toy Story restaurant makes it a must for any Toy Story fan. My Roundup Rodeo BBQ review includes all my thoughts on this incredible theme, a breakdown of all the food options with some commentary on vegetarian-friendly options, and why we will be visiting again. I visit Walt Disney World frequently and often like to visit my favorite restaurants so adding this one to our frequently visited list says a lot about how we measured the quality and cost of this dining experience.

Roundup Rodeo BBQ Review- Toy Story ThemeRoundup Rodeo BBQ Review

The theme of Roundup Rodeo BBQ is inspired by Toy Story. The restaurant itself is a creation by Andy, it looks a bit like a cardboard box that has been decorated and filled with other toys. The best part of this theme is how the staff also plays along. There has been a bit of misconception that this experience offers character dining but this is NOT a character dining experience at Walt Disney World.

There will be moments over the loudspeaker where Sarg from Toy Story will call out commands with one of them warning the guests at the restaurant that Andy is coming! All the Cast Members will stop what they are doing and freeze in place when this happens. The lights will dim and you will hear the sounds of Andy's footsteps coming from above. See the Cast Member in the above picture for an example of how they ‘freeze' when Andy comes!

But what I loved most about this? All the guests in the restaurant played along too, it was amazing! I love immersive environments like this at Disney that even encourages adults to play along. Well done, Disney!

When you arrive at the restaurant, you are even asked if you would like to ride a horse to your table and they are ready with a set of wooden horses. This was another immersion detail I saw plenty of adult guests participating with. Once you get to your table, the server will collect your house but it adds to the fun of this restaurant.

Roundup Rodeo BBQ

This is one of those Disney-themed experiences that they got right and it does encourage guest participation which makes the entire experience even more enjoyable.

Roundup Rodeo BBQ Dining Review

Our visit to Roundup Rodeo BBQ in Toy Story Land at Hollywood Studios was an interesting experience as a vegetarian! I was a bit concerned at first if there would be anything for me to eat and found out that they had plenty of options. This might also be the most bang for your buck meal quantity-wise at Walt Disney World!

The menu is offered family-style which is similar to a buffet with plates brought to your table for the family to share. Think of it like a buffet except it's all brought right to your table on plates to share. Let's get into all the specific food options of our Roundup Rodeo BBQ review.

Roundup Rodeo BBQ Salads

The first course is a variety of salads. I really enjoyed the uniqueness of these salads which made them a bit more exciting than your run-of-the-mill starter salad. The three salads you are brought include Rootin’ Tootin Tomato Salad (Cucumbers, Pickled Red Onion, White Balsamic Vinaigrette,) Rex’s Romaine and Kale Salad (Apples, Dried Cranberries, Pumpkin Seeds, Green Goddess Dressing), and Wheezy’s Watermelon Salad (fresh mint.)

You will also be brought cheddar biscuits with sweet pepper jelly. Honestly, this was my favorite part of the meal and from what I've heard from other folks, I'm not alone there. If they sold these at a quick service stand, I would be lining up!

Roundup Rodeo BBQ Meat Platter

If you do not eat meat, you can opt for a vegetarian option. Since my son does eat meat but I don't, they actually brought us a meat-based selection and a vegetarian one which was a nice touch. The smoked meats selection includes Evil Dr. Smoked Ribs, Buttercup's Beef Brisket, There’s a Sausage in my Boot – Fire-grilled Pork Sausage and BBQ Chicken – with Style! Meat lovers rejoice, you will enjoy this if you like BBQ!

Vegetarian platter

The vegetarian platter is called Trixie's Plant-based Trio and includes Combat Carloflower with Harissa Drizzle and Walnut Gremolata, Scrumptious Bratwurst, and Rip Roarin’ Rib Chop. I personally did not care for how authentic the vegetarian platter was- it was very, very close to meat-tasting. For vegetarians who pick this lifestyle for health reasons and miss the taste of meat, you will love it. For vegetarians who do not like the taste of meat, you might not like this option aside from the cauliflower.

The vegetarian option is made from Impossible meat so this is also something to consider. I dislike the taste of the Impossible brand so it's not surprising this was a miss for me. Others may feel differently, but the richness of taste and quality was there!

This is more than enough food for two people but if you're worried about getting your money's worth, you can easily see the value is here.

You also get to pick four sides to share from this list:

Roundup Rodeo BBQ Review

Our favorite side we picked was The Married Spuds- Loaded Potato Barrels- next time, we might pick two dishes of this as we were nearly fighting over them!

We also picked Force Field Fried Pickles and Cowpoke Corn on the Cob- grilled corn with chili-lime spice blend topped with cotija cheese. The fried pickles were nothing too extraordinary but the corn on the cob was great. It has a unique flavor and a fun twist on this classic.

Last, we picked Slinky Doooooooooog's Mac & Cheese. My son considers himself a bit of a Disney Parks mac and cheese expert and he was not impressed with this. His opinion was the toddler mac and cheese sides that are found at nearly every quick service spot are richer tasting than this! Harsh but honest. I tried it as well and I agreed, nothing too mind-blowing.

And lastly, they have you select a choice of desserts but our server brought them all! I am not sure if this is typical or if she was feeling sorry for me because I was a vegetarian at a BBQ restaurant (could be the case!) but I appreciated it. The desserts were excellent! For reference, your dessert choices include:

  • Bo’s Lemon and Blueberry Cheesecake
  • Billy’s Chocolate Silk Pie
  • Goat’s Apple Pie
  • Gruff’s Peach-Strawberry Pie
  • Cupcake à la Forky (child's menu option)

They were all great, some of the best dessert options I have tried at a Walt Disney World restaurant.

All of the food embodied a picnic-style theme down to the ceramic paper plates provided. The table is also provided with a variety of BBQ sauces for guests to enjoy. I was impressed with the vegetarian platter being so readily available, as always Disney does well to make sure their vegetarian guests are taken care of. I enjoyed our experience but it was the atmosphere that made this a win for us.

Is Roundup Rodeo BBQ Worth It?Roundup Rodeo BBQ Review

We enjoyed all the food but felt it was plenty, perhaps more than enough, for two guests. If you dine with a group of three or four, you may feel the quantity of food is more balanced. For just two people, it feels like too much, perhaps even a bit wasteful, but you will get your money's worth. I think the experience is worth it for the price based on the quality and quantity of food alone. The cost is $45 per adult and $25 per child ages 3-9. I think the pricing is fair considering everything that is offered including drinks.

Add in the fun, immersive atmosphere then this is a win. Kids will simply love this restaurant, even teenagers like my son, since it does such a nice job of encouraging everyone to go along with the theme. This is a great addition to Toy Story Land and a popular one, make sure to make your reservations in advance if you decide to visit after reading this Roundup Rodeo BBQ review.
