New Menu Aims to Improve Mediocre Magic Kingdom Quick Service Restaurant

One of Magic Kingdom's quick-service dining locations just had its menu redone and now features some interesting new offerings! For the past couple of years this central dining location had a limited Mexican menu with average food options.

Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe is an Old West saloon-style dining location located in Frontierland that offers quick-service meals and mobile ordering. We have considered this restaurant to be one of the more mediocre options at the park in the past, but Disney has made a move to improve the Pecos Bill menu by adding some brand-new food options for guests to enjoy.

Keep reading for everything you need to know about the changes to the Pecos Bill menu including descriptions of the new menu items and photos!

Here is a look at what is on the new menu at Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe! Generally I am excited to see the new offerings integrated here.

A new offering is the Create-Your-Own option which allows you to select your protein of choice (Citrus-Chipotle Chicken, Green Chili Pork, and Coco-Cola Cherry Braised Beef (for an additional $0.50)) and add a side. In the Create-Your-Own Category are the Steamed Tamale, Nacho Bowl, Southwest Caesar Salad, and Rice Bowl.

Disney describes the Steamed Tamale as a steamed green chili-cheese tamale with stewed pinto beans, queso fresco, and pico de gallo. See a look at this below:

The Nacho Bowl contains house-fried corn tortilla chips smothered with stewed pinto beans, chipotle queso, and pico de gallo. Here is a look at it below:

The Southwest Caesar Salad features romaine tossed in creamy salsa verde dressing, pepitas, queso fresco, pico de gallo, and tortilla strips. Here is the salad below:

And the Rice Bowl contains pinto beans, cilantro-lime rice, cowboy caviar, and queso fresco. Here it is below:

The Pecos Bill entrees include a Double Chili con Queso Burger and Grilled Masa Flatbread. The Double Chili con Queso Burger (pictured below) contains two flame-broiled all-beef patties topped with chili con carne, chipotle queso, and corn chips.

The Grilled Masa Flatbread is a grilled corn flatbread topped with sweet potatoes, stewed pinto beans, plant-based pepper jack “cheese,” shredded lettuce, pico de gallo, and plant-based lime crema.

There are also new sides at Pecos Bill including barbecue cheddar seasoned fries, charros beans, plant-based cilantro-lime rice, and guacamole. For kids meals, kids can choose from a Chicken Rice Bowl, Chicken Nacho Bowl, Cheeseburger, or Beef Nacho Bowl. The dessert menu includes a Mexican Chocolate and Horchata Verrine and a Sweet Corn Mousse with white chocolate and raspberry powder.

This reimagined menu brings some new offerings to a restaurant that we have considered to be one of Magic Kingdom's more mediocre options. This restaurant location is central and one that we end up eating at often though the menu left a lot to be desired. The previous restaurant offerings were a fine meal that was more on the healthy side compared to other foods in Magic Kingdom. Recently when we were in the parks for the Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and the media launch for Tiana's Bayou Adventure this restaurant became a spot we ate multiple meals in. We didn't choose it then for the food but because it was one of the few restaurants open and in proximity to what we were doing.

We wondered whether the space would eventually be used for a quick service Tiana's Palace location similar to the conversion that they did in Disneyland. Timing for that conversion has come and gone. It could also have gotten some sort of Country Bear Jamboree theming – another restaurant that's coming to Disneyland. It feels like Disney went the simplest route here which is just to re-launch the menu rather than spending time on a full relaunch of the restaurant space with changes to the food offerings.

Big THunder Expansion

We already know that this area is going to be home to the new Cars-themed expansion coming to Magic Kingdom that will replace the current Rivers of America section. In the concept artwork above you can see the restaurant space still preserved in the upper left. Perhaps it will be integrated or relaunched when this new area opens. It could be something along the lines of the theming from the Grizzly Peak Airfield restaurant Smokejumpers in Disney California Adventure. There they feature rustic natural park memorabilia. We could see that with a Cars spin attached. We will just have to wait and see.
