New Disneyland Rideshare Drop-Off Area Now Open As Construction Moves Ahead

Disneyland is at the beginning of massive construction for new additions coming to the resort. Specifically, they just broke ground on the massive new Eastern Gateway area that will completely change the Harbor Boulevard entrance to Disneyland. Now, there is a new Disneyland rideshare area at the resort that is just opening that prepares the area for this work.

Disneyland shared the current status of the Harbor Boulevard drop-off area and the new rideshare area that is just opening. Mickey Visit brings you the latest Disney news and planning resources, including Disney holiday news and changes to cast member roles.

The area, which is just outside the old ESPN Zone building which is now Lululemon, is now open as the west side rideshare area. The drop-off zone is showing within the Lyft app as one of the choices for dropping off. The area on the Lyft app is labeled as Downtown Disney.

Here’s a look at the new area on the map. The Lyft map is on the left and the Disneyland map is on the right to more easily see where the area has been added.

The other options currently remain: Disneyland Hotel, Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel, Pixar Place Hotel, and the Harbor Boulevard location.

We reached out to Disneyland for information on if this area was going to be a replacement for the Harbor Boulevard location. Some had worried that as the construction on the new entrance area moved forward that the Harbor Boulevard drop-off would be impacted.

Disneyland officials shared with Mickey Visit directly that in the new rideshare area some of the surrounding area is undergoing some minor changes including repaving, which means some of the traffic flow is temporary. They also confirmed that there will continue to be a rideshare pick-up and drop-off location on the east and west sides of the resort for guests, meaning that the current Harbor Boulevard drop-off will remain.

That said, they did share that some of these areas may move around temporarily as they navigate construction. We take this to mean that the Harbor Boulevard area may have to close at some points for construction of certain parts of the new structure and bridge. They also shared that they plan to share more information about changes to arrivals on the Disneyland construction web page soon.

We know that eventually all of the bus and transportation drop-off zones here will be impacted as the new bridge and expansion of the new Eastern Gateway move forward.

The new Eastern Gateway will help to upgrade the entire Disneyland arrival experience. The new parking structure will include 6,000 parking spaces, security screening, and rideshare areas. This will completely transform the entrance area from the Harbor Boulevard side of Disneyland.

The parking structure will be 3,257,394 square feet with 8 levels. There will be a bridge from the parking structure over Harbor Boulevard to connect to the eastern entrance of Disneyland.  The bridge will lead over the former site of the Carousel Inn and connect into the Esplanade.

Eventually the space that is freed up for by the work is set to become the new Avatar area at the resort.

We will be covering the entire construction of the Eastern Gateway at Disneyland very closely. Stay tuned!
