New Disneyland Lounge Has Our Hopes Up For Return of Beloved Restaurant

Disney has announced a new theme for the lobby lounge at the Disneyland Hotel, which will be in effect starting today. The news has us thinking about the potential return of our favorite Disneyland Hotel restaurant.

Disney has been transforming this space for a while since the closing of Steakhouse 55. This restaurant was a favorite spot of ours and sadly one of the Disneyland experiences that never reopened after the pandemic. Disneyland confirmed in August 2023 that the restaurant would not reopen, and the space operated after that point as this lounge which has now received an official name connected to its theming.

We have new details on the new name and what you can expect from the lounge! Keep reading for everything you need to know.

Disney announced that the lobby lounge at the Disneyland Hotel will become the Broken Spell Lounge, as of October 21 at 7 pm. This lounge joins the other new hidden restaurant that opened last year at the Disneyland Hotel.

The lounge, which draws inspiration from Sleeping Beauty, offers a forest setting where guests can enjoy small bites with menu highlights like dry-rub chicken wings, classic Caesar salad, savory steak frites, and more. After October 21, the lounge will be open daily starting at 4 pm.

They also shared some looks at the food offered at the lounge.

The fries look delicious! How do you feel about the pizza? I love that it looks like they'll offer complimentary bar nuts.

The lounge sits in front of and partially occupies the old space that was home to Steakhouse 55. That restaurant opened in 2006 and never reopened after the pandemic. That restaurant was lined with photos of stars from Walt Disney’s era in Hollywood and had an incredible menu as well as a surprisingly great breakfast. In August 2023, it was announced that the restaurant would be closed for good.

We know that they want to add some type of restaurant back to the hotel, but it may be years before this is the case. The General Manager of the Disneyland Hotel, Dan Coleman, shared with us previously that a new sit-down offering that isn't the same steakhouse would eventually be opening at the hotel, but this would be a long way off.

In the meantime, we can still look forward to a new steakhouse coming to the resort soon as Downtown Disney will be welcoming a new steakhouse and adjacent barbecue eatery by a Michelin-starred chef as part of the district's ongoing transformation.

  1. I miss Steakhouse 55 so much. They had amazing elegant breakfasts, too. On my visits to Disneyland after Steakhouse 55 closed I’d pass by its lonely spot hoping to see a “reopening” sign. I look forward to trying this as my early dinner/late lunch treat before heading back into the Parks for my night of fun.
