Walt Disney World is in the middle of an ambitious era of attraction development as huge construction sites populate three of its four theme parks. One of those bold new attractions, the resort’s first suspended roller coaster, just reached a milestone.

Monsters, Inc. Doors Coaster Goes Vertical
A new roller coaster based on the climactic doors sequence of 2001’s Monsters, Inc. is under construction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World. Riders’ seats will be positioned underneath the track, making it the first suspended coaster in a Disney theme park.
As of April 2026, the crew building this new roller coaster reached an important milestone in the attraction’s creation: vertical construction!

The first pieces of roller coaster support beams are now in place at the project site, marking the first components of the construction to go vertical. Eventually, these beams will support the actual track pieces for the roller coaster. When it’s all said and done, the entire roller coaster ride will be indoors.

Disney has not announced when the Monsters, Inc. doors roller coaster will open, but we predict its opening timeline here.
At the same time Disney is building the new doors coaster, it’s also prepping nearby areas for even more Monsters, Inc. attractions.
What’s Coming to Disney’s New Monstropolis Land
The Monsters, Inc. doors roller coaster will be surrounded by an entire land called Monstropolis.
Though the coaster itself expands the footprint of Disney’s Hollywood Studios, being located in what was formerly a portion of the parking lot, the rest of Monstropolis largely replaces the park’s former Muppets Courtyard. All of the Muppets Courtyard attractions, including Muppet*Vision 3D, permanently closed to make way for Monstropolis. See all the attractions that closed at Hollywood Studios here.
Many of those defunct attractions’ facilities will be repurposed and rethemed to match the Monsters, Inc. aesthetic rather than being torn down.
Guests can expect an indoor theater attraction and at least two restaurants to be part of Monstropolis, though Disney has not formally revealed the names or details about these experiences. Learn more about all 12 future attractions coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Construction Projects Throughout Disney World
As massive and exciting as the Monstropolis expansion is going to be for Disney’s Hollywood Studios, it’s hard to believe it’s just one of four major construction projects happening right now throughout Walt Disney World.
At Magic Kingdom, a new area called Piston Peak National Park will bring two rides themed to Pixar’s Cars to Frontierland. Nearby, an entire new land called Villains Land will bring to life the classic antagonists of Walt Disney Animation Studios films.
At Disney’s Animal Kingdom, a new land called Tropical Americas will replace DinoLand, U.S.A., with new rides based on Encanto and Indiana Jones.
