The story of The Darkmoor Monster Makeup Experience in Dark Universe allows guests to experience the old lab of the character Dr. Pretorius that has been converted into a parlor to “continue the spirit of his demented experiments.”

Dr. Pretorius is a character from the Bride of Frankenstein film that convinced Dr. Frankenstein to continue his experiments. He's known for bringing a bit of comedy and “camp” to that film so it's fitting to see his character honored with this costume themed experience.

Adults will not be able to purchase or consume alcoholic beverages at any of the Universal theme parks or Universal CityWalk while in the makeup.

This is an interesting rule and one that took me by surprise when learning about this new Universal Monsters experience. It could be that Universal is worried about the chance for any poor guest behavior in the makeup and wants to get ahead of any issues.

Or perhaps, even being mistaken for a character in the land depending on how elaborate the outfits are guests show up in. This is why Disney doesn't allow adults to dress up in costumes at the theme parks except for special events!

  1. I am a former employee of a liquor store, the main reason for this policy is that of course an ID may be requested in order to purchase alcohol; the seller may not be able to positively verify the ID if the person presenting it is in makeup. Working on Halloween or in the Halloween season, I have had to refuse sales to persons in makeup because I could not positively verify that the ID presented was theirs.
