Universal Orlando just made an unexpected change to an attraction at the Islands of Adventure theme park. Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, located in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, is a fan favorite ride.
The attraction consistently draws some of the longest wait times in the park, making this latest change especially significant for guests hoping to experience the coaster. Express Pass Change to Harry Potter Roller Coaster
Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure is one of the most popular attractions at Universal Orlando, with a track that measures nearly 1 mile in length. This coaster, which is the longest in Florida, takes riders on a journey through the Forbidden Forest. As part of Hagrid’s Care of Magical Creatures class, this adventure is packed full of unique, up-close experiences, familiar Harry Potter scenes, and favorite characters.

Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure averages a wait time exceeding 100 minutes daily, regardless of the time of year. Since the ride opened in 2019, it has easily outpaced wait times for all the other rides at Universal Orlando. Universal has gone back and forth with the ride, in the past using a Virtual Line when crowds are high, which is a similar process to how Virtual Queues work at Walt Disney World.
Universal Express Pass was added to the attraction on May 30, 2025, for the first time after years of only using a Virtual Line to manage long lines. At the time, I called this move a mistake since the demand for the attraction would only result in a longer standby line and the longest Express Pass line at the resort.
Now Universal is changing its decision on Express Pass for Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, with the attraction no longer part of the Universal Express program, effective July 1, 2026.
This decision does come as a surprise, as Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure has remained a part of Express Pass for nearly a year. The addition of Express Pass to this popular ride did increase standby lines, so this is good news for guests who skip purchasing Express Pass. Standby lines often increase with the addition of any skip-the-line feature, as Team Members have to pause the movement in the standby line to let Express Pass guests through first. The addition of Express Pass to this popular coaster made the standby line move far more slowly.
Express Pass, especially with its high cost, is meant to truly make guests feel like they are skipping the line, not just waiting in a second line that’s slightly shorter. Unfortunately, this was often the case for Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, as Express Pass wait times could still stretch beyond an hour and were frequently about half the length of the regular standby queue or more.

The best method of riding Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure is by trying to rope drop if you have Early Park Admission. If you do not have Early Park Admission, then plan on rope dropping it on days when Early Park Admission is not offered so you have an even playing field with all guests.
Another good method is waiting until the last hour before the park closes. But keep in mind, since Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure is an outdoor attraction, waiting until the end of the day puts you at risk of missing it if it closes due to storms.
