Journey of Water, the new EPCOT attraction inspired by Moana, is an interactive experience inspired by Moana’s friendship with after and devotion to nature. The new experience is right at home in the World Nature area of EPCOT!
This walk-through attraction is filled with lush greenery and even a larger-than-life Te Fiti figure. Guests are able to interact with water in various ways including using water to create melodies and watching water mimic your actions.

Moana Journey of Water Virtual Queue
This new experience is going to be popular if the previews have been any indication! These previous have caused large crowds in EPCOT, also in conjunction with the Disney100 Celebration at EPCOT which included the return of Soarin’ Over California, and we’ve seen wait times as high as 200 minutes for popular rides in the park.
The virtual queue works just like others in the past, one of the most recent being the virtual queue for TRON at Magic Kingdom, with guests able to request a boarding group to access the new attraction.
- Guests may join the virtual queue throughout the day starting at 9:00 AM.
- Guests must be inside EPCOT to join the virtual queue.
- Guests can access the queue using the My Disney Experience app.
- Guests can only enter the virtual queue no more than once per day.
A standby line may not be available when a virtual queue is in use.
How to Get a Boarding Group to Moana Journey of Water
Here are our best tips on getting a virtual queue/boarding group at Walt Disney World. We have had great success with this option for all new rides at the parks like Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind, Rise of the Resistance, and TRON.
- Download the My Disney Experience app. Double-check that all your tickets are linked to your app and that you have a valid Park Pass Reservation for EPCOT. You must be inside EPCOT to access the virtual queue.
- A few minutes before 9AM- log into the app and click on the ‘join’ button for “Journey of Water Inspired by Moana Virtual Queue”- I would do this a few times going back and forth, I found this helped my phone load the page quicker when the time came when we used this trick for Rise of the Resistance. This is also a good time to ensure you are logged in so I would make sure you log out and log back in, just to be safe.
- Wait until exactly when the clock hits 9AM, click on ‘join’- this brings you to the main screen where you will click ‘join’ again and then a screen will show your party- no need to stop to select them, they will be preselected, and then hit join again. Disney runs on Apple time so you’ll want to either have an iPhone up on the home screen looking at the clock app to see the second hand count down or have Time.gov pulled up (both of these sources countdown the seconds in the same way).
- This process should literally take 1-2 seconds- be ready to push those buttons quickly!
- Make sure push notifications are turned on for My Disney Experience so you will be alerted if your group is called to return. Y
- Please note that joining the virtual queue does not guarantee the ability to experience Moana Journey of Water. Though Disney offers this disclaimer about boarding groups and the virtual queues, Disney does their best to ensure that all guests have the opportunity to take advantage of their boarding group.
