Ice Cream in Disneyland ParkDole Whip- Ice Cream in Disneyland

The Magic Kingdom is rich in tradition, memories and magic- after all, it is the original. So let's start here to dive into the best ice cream options at Disneyland.

Of all the ice cream options in Disneyland, there is no treat more synonymous with Disneyland than the iconic Dole Whip found at the Adventureland Tiki Juice Bar.

This pineapple frozen treasure is available as a soft-serve dish or in a pineapple juice float.  (Note: now Dole Whip is offered at Trader Sam's at Disneyland Hotel with a rum addition option!)

Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor | Dining & Restaurants | Disneyland Park | Disneyland Resort

Another nostalgic ice cream location is Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor on Main Street. Choose from classic flavors of hand-scooped vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, or a seasonal favorite in a cup or waffle cone.  Or, sample one of the signature sundaes including the Firehouse Dalmatian mint sundae or enjoy a refreshing root beer float.

Next door, Carnation Café lists frozen options on its menu such as the banana hot fudge ice cream sundae, various malts and milkshakes. Yum!

Frontierland’s Golden Horseshoe also has dessert round-ups featuring a house-made chocolate chunk cookie sundae complete with caramel and chocolate sauces.  The menu also boasts root beer floats and chocolate Coca-Cola cherry floats.  And, occasionally, the ice cream nachos (scoops of ice cream served with broken waffle cones) are available on the “hidden” menu.  Be sure to check with the cast member if the dessert is available.

Mickey shaped ice cream bars

The portable frozen treats are available throughout both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. Outdoor ice cream carts carry the Mickey-themed options, chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwiches, popsicles, the frozen banana, and of course the classic Mickey Mouse ice cream head. Most restaurant and quick service locations accept annual passport discounts.  Outdoor vendors do not.

Ice Cream in Disney's California Adventure

The ice cream anchor in Disney California Adventure resides in Pacific Wharf- Ghirardelli’s Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop.

In the spirit of California’s San Francisco area- home of the original Ghirardelli’s- guests can sample California-themed sundaes including the Golden Gate banana split, or Ocean Beach sea salt caramel sundae along with traditional ice cream cones and milkshakes. You can also get a free chocolate sample when you walk in the door.

Clarabelle’s Hand Scooped Ice Cream on Buena Vista Street is another location serving scrumptious frozen sweets.  A fun portable treat is the hand-dipped ice cream bar covered with your choice of chocolate and candies.  If you have an appetite, order the souvenir “kitchen sink” sundae served in a Mickey Mouse themed bowl shaped like a sink.  Waffle cones and floats are also available at Clarabelle’s Hand Scooped Ice Cream.

For the best milkshake available anywhere in Disneyland Resort, drive on over to Flo’s V-8 Café in Cars Land.  These monster-truck sized frozen drinks are available with or without a souvenir glass and come in vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry or if you can’t decide, go for the Neapolitan flavor. And each drink is topped with “road gravel”- a little bit of chocolate crunch fun.

If simple is your ice cream choice, Cozy Cone Café in Cars Land offers up soft-serve cones- vanilla, chocolate, or the always-popular swirl combination. Or, if you need a rest while savoring an icy dessert, Carthay Circle Lounge located on Buena Vista Street lists a trio of ice cream French macaroon sandwiches- salted caramel, pistachio, and raspberry.  These little bites are a delight!

All three of the resort’s hotels- Disneyland Hotel, Disney’s Paradise Pier, and Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel and Spa- carry at least one variety of ice cream. For a fun adult twist, Surfside Lounge in Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel offers boozy milkshakes featuring Bailey’s or Kahlua. Be right there!

Downtown Disney Ice Cream SpotsA dessert with cookies and chocolate, another with cotton candy and hard candy, and the last with pretzel sticks, chocolate and m & m candies

When mentioning ice cream and Downtown Disney District, the first place to come to mind is the familiar Haagen-Dazs.  The menu boasts a variety of confections including cones, shakes, and the signature dazzle menu item- a layered ice cream parfait with sticky sauces, crunchy candy or sweet fruit.

For more decadent selections, Uva Bar highlights a s’mores root beer float made with toasted marshmallow ice cream topped with a gooey s’more and a pile of whipped cream.  Uva Bar also offers homemade milkshakes including the old-fashioned orange 50/50.

Featuring the famous shakes of Instagram, Black Tap Burgers and Shakes has an option for sitting inside and eating the burgers along with a walk up Crazy Shake Window. The theme of this restaurant is a 80s and 90s New York Vibe as they call their food ‘an homage to the great American luncheonettes of our childhoods.' These shakes are absolutely crazy, don't miss out!

Another great place to get ice cream is Salt and Straw, this Portland based ice cream is said to be created as a one-of-a-kind experience, with diverse ice cream options. Salt & Straw ice cream offerings are handmade in small batches using local, organic and sustainable ingredients.

So no matter where you are at any given time while visiting Disneyland Resort, ice cream options are available nearby.  Now we can all scream together!
