The Hook's Barbery experience onboard the Disney Treasure and Disney Wish cruise ships is a unique offering in the Disney fleet that brings a barbershop experience to sea. I recently shared my full review of the new Disney Treasure cruise ship where I enjoyed this haircut experience.
Disney offers a variety of amenities onboard their cruise ships for all ages. There is entertainment for the entire family to enjoy together and offerings at Disney's private islands for the entire family to play together. There are also lots of offerings for kids to play separately like in the Disney Cruise Line kids clubs onboard where kids won't ever want to leave. Today we're talking about one of the great spa offering for adults that sets the ships apart.
Below is an overview of my haircut and shave experience onboard the Disney Treasure. Plus, a look inside the secret bar inside Hook's Barbery and a warning about the shave and facial.

Getting a Haircut at Hook's Barbery Disney Cruise
The Hook's Barberry shop is located on Deck Four opposite the Untangled Salon onboard both the Disney Treasure and Disney Wish. The location is a fully functioning barber shop which offers shaves, haircuts, and facials. There's also a secret bourbon bar with a wide selection of bourbon options to make an Old Fashioned.

By no means do you have to drink during your haircut. I got my haircut done at 11 am and I didn't quite have the interest in an Old Fashioned at that hour. I believe that there also wasn't a bartender staffed at that time.
Prices for Haircuts and Shave Onboard Disney Cruise Line
Here's the full prices sheet for getting a haircut or shave at Hook's Barbery. The offerings are part of the spa services offered by a specialized third party that also operates the Senses Spa and Untangled Salon. The prices are comparable to a high-end city barber. You can see all of the prices in the image above.
I tried the Captain's Grooming Treatment which cost $129 for both the shave and the haircut. I could have also just gotten the shave for $79 or the haircut for $59. It's fun that there is also a child's option for $29.
Hook's Barbery Experience
Before the haircut I had to fill out a health form that released liability. It seemed more relevant for the spa massages, but I would guess that the spa services have all guests sign these for any services.
Right when I sat down in my chair and began to interact with my barber I could tell that this was going to be a luxurious experience. My barber had a ton of experience and had been working for Disney Cruise Line for multiple years. Before that he was a barber in India and owned his own salon. Many of the Cast Members onboard Disney Cruise Line are from all over the world because they don't have to be US citizens to work onboard. I enjoyed asking my barber about India and his time working at sea.
We discussed my perferences for the haircut and he got to work. He used the buzzer on the sides and then went to work trimming and thinning out the hair on top. He cut a line for the part in my hair. Afterwards, he used a warm towel to clean the hair off the top of my head and kneck. What a perfect way to end a haircut. This really spoiled me for the future. The haircut lasted about 40 minutes.
The only frustrating part of this experience was the amount of interruptions that we had during the shave. There was only one barber there so he had to stop and help with rescheduling when someone came in. This happened a number of times and it disrupted the tranquility of the experience just a bit.
Shave and Facial Experience
After the haircut was completed, the barber dove into my shave and facial. First, he set me up for the shave with a lather of shaving cream. From there it felt like he attacked my face with the razors going both against and with the orientation of my facial hair. The only thing that limited the shave was that they can't use a strait razor blade at sea where the boat is rocking back and forth. They use a normal safety razor that you might have a home. Even so, the barber wielded the razor to get every single piece of hair off my face. He used the Grown Alchemist Shaving Gell which I found out later was very nice product. After this shave no hair grew back for multiple days – much longer than after a typical for me.
My face was already starting to feel a bit raw from the shave and we hadn't even gotten into the facial yet. During the facial he used multiple different warm towels to wrap my face and comfort it. The towels created this warm dark setting for the facial massage. This was so relaxing. It puts you in a state between awake and asleep where you just don't quite know what time it is or how much times goes by. It is very much the same as a massage. In this moment I noticed the sea shanties themed to Peter Pan playing the background and enjoyed the moment.
I should stopped him there to avoid the pain. He then used a thick scrub exfoliator and different oils to take a layer of dead skin off my face. He used the ELEMIS Pro-Collagen Glow Boost Exfoliator, ELEMIS Dynamic Resurfacing Facial Wash, and ELEMIS Pro-Collagen Marine Cream. Be warned that my neck was sore and red for almost two days after the shave. My skin felt both great and in pain after the experience. For those with sensitive skin, be cautious about doing the facial experience add-on.
My face was red and sore for almost two days after the shave. It was the best shave that I've had but I don't know if the facial soreness was worth it. Looking back some of this was my fault as I should've asked my barber to go lighter, but in the moment I didn't know how my skin would react.
“Hidden” Bar in Hook's Barbery
The hidden bar that many describe in Hook's Barbery isn't that hidden other than the fact that it's tucked into the front corner of the barbershop. You wouldn't necessarily come here just to get a drink at this bar as there are so many other great Disney lounges to grab a drink onboard. However, if you are interested in drinking during your haircut or if you are a big Old Fashioned fan this opens up an amazing experience. You do not have to be getting any of the services here to stop in for a drink.
As I mentioned above, the hours for the bar are shorter than the hours for the haircut services. The bar typically opens at 5 pm. Check with the barbers in here about hours if no bartender is present when you stop in.
Check out the variety of bourbons on the shelves seen in the photo above. The bourbon's range quite a bit in price. The ones that I looked at cost $68 and $73 per drink but they go up to $2,000.
This haircut was part of our media preview sailing onboard Disney Cruise Line. Though we occasionally get the opportunity to try out new experiences like this, we are always honest in our opinion.
