Disney Haunted Mansion Movie
The upcoming Walt Disney Pictures' “Haunted Mansion” is based on the classic theme park attraction and features a star-studded cast including LaKeith Stanfield, Tiffany Haddish, Owen Wilson, Danny DeVito, Rosario Dawson and Chase Dillon. In a past “Halfway to Halloween” Disney Parks Blog announcement, we were given a brief synopsis of the plot:
In this mysterious adventure, a doctor (Dawson) and her 9-year-old son (Dillon), looking to start a new life, move into a strangely affordable mansion in New Orleans, only to discover that the place is much more than they bargained for. Desperate for help, they contact a priest (Wilson), who, in turn, enlists the aid of a widowed scientist-turned failed-paranormal expert (Stanfield), a French Quarter psychic (Haddish) and a crotchety historian (DeVito).
Now we have additional details including a spectacular cast addition and sneak peak of what details from this beloved attraction we might see…
D23 Haunted Mansion Movie Sneak Peek
Director Justin Simien came out on stage to talk about the Haunted Mansion movie and shared details of his former job as a Disneyland cast member! Justin Simien spoke highly of that job at Disneyland, saying it was the best summer job he ever had, and how he always enjoyed riding Pirates and his favorite ride… the Haunted Mansion!
Simien spoke about how connected he felt to the movie once he read the script due to the fun characters, humor and the slight edge of darkness connecting it back to the classic ride. But the best part was how he mentioned that it was extremely important that he have all the details and Easter eggs of the attraction in the movie!
But for the main event, Disney showed us a teaser trailer for the upcoming Haunted Mansion movie filled with familiar homages to the iconic attraction. Among those familiar moments from the Haunted Mansion attraction included glimpses of the Hat Box Ghost, the dueling portrait ghosts, suit of armor and the infamous stretching room.
And to end this spectacular announcement with a bang, Jamie Lee Curtis made her formal debut as Madame Leota as she came out on stage in a Doom Buggy!
Haunted Mansion will be released in theaters March 10, 2023.
