Disney Just Made NEW Simple, Yet Needed, Change to Genie Plus

Disney has made an app change to both the Disneyland app and My Experience App for Disneyland and Walt Disney World. This new app change focuses on the Genie+ feature which allows guests to book advance reservations for attraction lines called Lightning Lanes at both parks.

This service is often confusing for first-time, or even long-time, guests and anything Disney can do to streamline the app is an improvement.

The Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort apps both now feature a new filter on the Tip Board. The Tip Board on the app is the hub for using Genie+ along with checking attraction wait times, entertainment showtimes, and more.

This is the most helpful feature of the Disney app as it shows guests the most timely park information as they go about their day. Now guests can take advantage of a new filter at the top of the Tip Board that will filter attractions to only show those that offer Genie+ Lightning Lane.

Previously, guests could only see all attractions and their wait times. If a guest is using Genie+ then it's not necessary to scroll through all the attractions that may not offer Lightning Lane if they're just planning on booking their next reservation time.

Once you toggle this filter on, the Tip Board will now just show attractions that offer Lightning Lane. This will save time when booking Lightning Lanes in the park especially if you're trying to do so in a hurry! And this is how we recommend using Genie+, the instant you scan your previous Lightning Lane then you should book your next one even while in line. This just makes this process even easier.

Modifying Lightning Lane Reservations

sold out genie plus

This is not the first time Disney has made modifications to how Genie+ works in the My Experience App or Disneyland App. One of the most helpful changes we have seen come to the Genie+ service is the ability to Modify Lightning Lane reservations.

Previously to this change, guests would have to cancel an existing Lightning Lane and then book another one. This way guests can just modify their existing reservation so they don't have to give up what they booked already before securing another one.

Disney Dining App Changes

Another helpful change we have seen recently has improved the way guests can search for available dining reservations. Now when guests are searching for available times they will see all the times that fall under breakfast, lunch, dinner, etc. which is useful for showing more options available. And this is also helpful for quickly seeing what time of day your reservation falls under especially for restaurants that my change their menus from breakfast to lunch or offer a different menu for lunch or dinner.

More Genie+ App Changes Needed

Disney is consistently making adjustments to the Genie+ service for both Disneyland and Walt Disney World. One adjustment I hope they make is to add more filters to this attraction list on the Tip Board.

For example, it would be incredibly useful for the app to filter out attractions that have already been experienced using Genie+. Since you can only use Genie+ on one attraction a day, this would be a more efficient way for guests to go down the list, so to speak, when booking Lightning Lanes.

  1. The Disney Genie app was nothing but trouble and a waste of good money.
We spent at least an hour in the services office when you enter Disney for the first 2 days of our visit because the Genie which we both paid for would not come up and they had to change our password each time. Then it only worked till noon until the park got busy.
We met many other people there who had the same experience. After wasting valuable time we just never used it again. We live in Canada and it is expensive to come but we love Disney and it is our 25th trip. We suggest you get rid of the Genie so people can enjoy their trip.
Make it easy just buy your passes and enjoy the real pleasure and magic of Disney the way Walt Disney would have wanted.
