Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground Disney Vacation Club Cabin New Details Announced

Disney has announced that cabins at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground will undergo a major update to become a new Disney Vacation Club property. This is part of broader improvement projects to Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, including a proposed pool, enhanced walking trails, and new dining areas at Trail’s End Restaurant and Crockett’s Tavern.

The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort offer a variety of recreation opportunities like horseback riding, fishing, campfire sing-a-longs, outdoor movies, archery, canoe and kayak rentals, arcades, and more. Guests can explore the scenic trails of this unique resort and enjoy a variety of dining and entertainment options. The Fort Wilderness Resort also provides easy access to the Magic Kingdom Park, as it's a boat ride away.

What Will the Updates to the Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort Cabins Entail?

The plan includes 350 cabins replacing current ones at Fort Wilderness resort, with the intention of making them as environmentally friendly and energy-efficient as possible while still utilizing the footprint of the current cabins. These will accommodate six adults and include a bedroom, bathroom, living room, full kitchen and private patio. Certain cabins will also be dog-friendly!

All rebuilding will take place on the existing 750 acres of scenic woodlands, and the project will result in a “refreshed” version of the cabins that is inspired by the resort's beautiful setting and embraces its “unique culture and heritage through the magic of Disney storytelling.” The Fort Wilderness area has always been popular for its bucolic nature and recreation offerings.

“For more than 50 years, Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground has offered guests the opportunity to explore nature with their loved ones while staying in the heart of Walt Disney World Resort,” said Bill Diercksen, senior vice president and general manager of Disney Vacation Club. “We’re excited to continue to build upon the resort’s rich legacy and elevate the cabin experience for our Members and all guests to enjoy for years to come.”

Reservations for these cabins will not exclusive to Disney Vacation Club members and will be available to all guests. Check out our guide on everything you need to know about the Disney Vacation Club and current resort rankings for Disney Vacation Club.

New Concept Artwork For Fort Wilderness Disney Vacation Club

Above is a look at the exterior of the new Fort Wilderness cabins. Though the exterior of the cabin looks bare, we can expect that these cabins will still have the vegetation around them so the exterior will hopefully be much more covered than cabin seen above.

The inside the cabins look very nicely appointed in a minimalist style that still feels influenced by the “timeless beauty of the American Frontier” that the current description of the Cabins at Fort Wilderness describes. Though it still delivers on that feeling with the touches throughout the room, these spaces are far less intensely decorated in a western style. The previous cabins featured dark wood and substantial fixtures. The below feels like a modern house decorated with the thought of bringing in some of the favorite aspects of the previous frontier style while still appealing to more modern tastes. This feels more like a converted barn in Napa Valley, California than a rough and tumble cabin in the wilderness.

The new one-bedroom cabin sleeps 6 and has a full kitchen. There are also a number dog-friendly cabins that will be available. Below is a look at the sitting area, kitchen, and bathroom space. You can see below that the bathroom is at the other end of the cabin space from the bedroom.

Next is a look back at the space where there is a couch against the wall that pulls down into a Murphy bed. The poster on the wall is a nice touch in the cabin, though it feels like a tribute to a time gone by.

The bedroom in the new cabins features a bunk bed and main bed. I like the Chip and Dale artwork above the headboard.

This was clearly a style change for these classic cabins.
