EPCOT Construction Finally Coming to an End with NEW World Celebration Area

EPCOT has been under construction for what feels like forever to many Disney Parks fans. The construction at EPCOT began in 2019 when Disney announced that the previous Future World area of the park would be split into three separate neighborhoods. Since that announcement the entire front part of EPCOT has been a maze of construction walls.

Well, we have good news for those that have been eagerly waiting for the day to return when you could walk freely through EPCOT once more! We have an announced end date for construction which currently has still been taking place in the World Celebration neighborhood. The end date of this construction also comes with news about this brand new area plus an Encanto themed sing along!

Keep reading for the overview of the history of construction at EPCOT, the end date for construction, and the new experiences coming to the World Celebration neighborhood.

EPCOT Construction Timeline

The construction at EPCOT that has been taking place since 2019 has been part of a project to redesign the previous “Future World” into three separate neighborhoods. Where Future World once stood, three new neighborhoods have been created: World Celebration, World Discovery, and World Nature. The original World Showcase has remained untouched in its design but has also received new attractions during this period like the popular Remy's Ratatouille Adventure in the France pavilion.

Moana Journey of Water

World Discovery is where guests can find the popular Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind attraction and World Nature is where Moana's Journey of Water is located. These two neighborhoods reached completion with the opening of Moana's Journey of Water. So since then, we have just been waiting for the World Celebration area to be completed.

World Celebration – NEW EPCOT Entertainment Hub

World Celebration is an entertainment focused hub divided into different gardens that will change along with the EPCOT festivals throughout the year. At night, the gardens light up and the colors will coordinate with the seasons. This part of the area is mostly complete as you can see in the image above!

The World Celebration area also includes the new CommuniCore Hall and CommuniCore Plaza, a multi-use facility and outdoor event space.

CommuniCore Hall is an indoor space with a geometric exterior design inspired by Spaceship Earth that will be the home to EPCOT festivals and other celebrations. You can see in the construction photo above the geometric design which fits the theme of the World Celebration neighborhood nicely. This is the space where the new Mickey & Friends character meet and greet will be found.

CommuniCore Hall also includes a mural highlighting the past and present of EPCOT. You can see some sneak peaks of this mural in the Instagram post shared by Disney below.

The CommuniCore Plaza will be a place to host musical performances that can extend into the gardens to host small and large scale concerts. We have already had some of these gardens revealed to us most notably with the extremely popular Walt the Dreamer statue. The World Celebration Gardens will also include more “luscious greenery and relaxing spaces” to enjoy in the CommuniCore Plaza and Inspiration Gardens

This is the last piece of construction in EPCOT! Once it is finished, the construction walls in the center of the park will finally come down.

When Does EPCOT Construction Finish?

EPCOT construction walls

The construction in EPCOT comes to an end starting June 10th 2024! This marks the end date of nearly five years of construction.

This is going to be an amazing transformation for EPCOT but will also be such a relief for guests that may have gotten a bit weary of navigating a complicated maze of construction walls.

Encanto Show on CommuniCore Plaza Stage

Encanto Show

The first show to debut on the brand new CommuniCore Plaza stage will be a brand new Encanto sing along experience called “¡Celebración Encanto!” This show will run multiple times throughout the day and take place June 10th through September 6th.

Disney has teased that they have even “more food and beverages and more entertainment to come” to this new area so stay tuned for future announcements for this newly reimagined area of EPCOT.

  1. glad to see construction coming to an end

I do have to say that the handicap parking is a long way to the entrance and difficult for many
Is there a reason why the close entrance from the parking is not open. It is very frustrating
for me and I am sure many others.
Can I please get an answer
