We Went to the 2024 Disneyland Super Bowl Parade

Yesterday a friend of Mickey Visit headed to Disneyland yesterday to capture the Super Bowl parade excitement. Patrick Mahomes returned to Disneyland for the second year in a row.

He participated in a cavalcade that traveled from “it's a Small World” to Main Street and featured dancers in football-themed outfits and characters including Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Pluto, Donald, and Chip and Dale. We arrived to Main Street at 9 am to get a good spot to watch, but Cast Members kept us moving until 12:30 pm. At that point we were able to settle in to secure a spot for the parade.

Before the parade arrived we spotted Disneyland Resort President Ken Potrock and Disney Parks Chairman Josh D'Amaro. It's always nice to see them and say hello.

Then, the parade arrived and the Chiefs fans in attendance – there were MANY people there. You can see the key moment from the cavalcade in our reel from Instagram below. My favorite moment was the confetti thrown down.

Thank you to @CaliforniaDisneyBliss and @MorningswithMickey on Instagram for sharing your footage and experience with us.

Disney Super Bowl Tradition

According to ABC News, the idea for the phrase was from Jane Eisner, the wife of former Disney CEO Michael Eisner. Darrell Fry, Disney’s sports media director, told ABC that according to Eisner’s 1998 memoir, “Work In Progress,” the idea came up during a dinner with Michael Eisner and his wife, George Lucas, and the first people to fly around the world without stopping, Dick Rutan and Jeana Yeager.

“It was late and the conversation hit a lull as we waited for our food,” Eisner wrote. “So I asked Dick and Jeana, ‘Well, now that you’ve accomplished the pinnacle of your aspirations, what could you possibly do next?' Rutan responded, without hesitation, ‘I’m going to Disneyland' And of course I go, ‘Wow, that’s cool! You made the right choice.' But my wife interjects: ‘You know, that’s a good slogan.'”

The longstanding Super Bowl tradition of players exclaiming this phrase began in 1987 after Super Bowl XXI with New York Giants quarterback Phil Simms. He looked into the camera and said “I'm going to Disney World!”, then it cut to a commercial. Since that point, it has been a tradition every year for a player of the winning team to declare that they will be going to Disneyland or Disney World (except for one year when there was no commercial in 2005). We think there is no better way to celebrate this victory!

Last year after the Chiefs' Super Bowl victory, MVP Patrick Mahomes looked to the cameras and shouted, “I'm going to Disneyland!” The next day, he appeared at Disneyland with his family and participated in a high-energy celebratory cavalcade through Disneyland Park.

We will share what we know about this year's Disneyland Super Bowl parade below, including details on what to expect based on last year and how to watch it.

The Disneyland Super Bowl Parade will take place on Monday, February 12, celebrating the winner of Super Bowl LVIII.

Looking to last year as an example of what to expect, there was a processional down the length of the parade route with MVP Patrick Mahomes on a float with Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse. The processional also included characters and dancers in front of the float. In addition to this appearance, Mahomes and his family also rode down Main Street in the fire truck for photos and video and spent the remainder of the day in the parks.

Last year, the celebratory cavalcade with Mahomes was held at 1:30 pm. The time for this year is not yet available on the Disneyland calendar, but we imagine it will be similar to last year's.

Update! Disney has confirmed that the 2024 cavalcade will begin at 2 pm at “it's a Small World”.

We now know that at least Patrick Mahomes from the Kansas City Chiefs will visit Disneyland during the parade tomorrow now that the Kansas City Chiefs have won the Super Bowl.

During a postgame interview, Mahomes shared with NFL Network that he is headed to Disneyland. He shared “I got to go to Disneyland at like 8 in the morning,” he said. “Dude, there might not be any sleep.”

See the recording below…

To see the Disneyland Super Bowl parade in person on Monday, you'll need valid theme park admission and a park reservation. As of the time of writing, reservations for Disneyland Park are still available for February 12, but we would recommend making reservations soon if you're planning on being in the park that day. Currently, there are no Magic Key reservations available for February 12.

When the times for the parade are announced, we suggest staking out a spot far in advance. Because the Disneyland Super Bowl Parade is going to be popular, we recommend saving a spot several hours in advance for the best viewing, especially if you are planning on getting a spot on Main Street U.S.A. See our guide to parades at Disneyland for tips on how to secure the best viewing for other parades!
