Disneyland Sit-Down Restaurant Restoring Favorite Pre-Pandemic Offering

Blue Bayou is one of the most iconic restaurants at Disneyland and is ranked at the top of the best Disneyland restaurants. This restaurant is stepped in Disneyland history and has been part of the resort since 1967.

With the return of Fantasmic! this summer, many guests have been anxiously awaiting Fantasmic! dining package news for Blue Bayou. The Blue Bayou Fantasmic! dining package is one of the most popular ways to view Fanasmic! and my personal favorite viewing option.

There has been one staple of a Blue Bayou experience that has been missing since the pandemic. In fact, this missing item was even lamented in our guide to experiences that still haven’t returned to Disneyland post-pandemic. This is exciting news snuck into the larger announcement of Fantasmic! dining packages for the summer, let’s get into why I am SO excited for this change!

Fantasmic! Dining Packages Returning

Blue Bayou Disneyland

Fantasmic! is one of the best nighttime spectaculars at the Disneyland Resort and it will return after nearly a YEAR of being closed after a fire broke out during a show in April 2023. Fantasmic! returns to Disneyland on May 24th 2024 as it joins other summer fun like the celebration of Pixar Fest and Season of the Force.

The new Blue Bayou dining packages were announced for the return of Fantasmic! and with this news brought some interesting changes to this long held tradition. There appears to be a big upgrade in the pre-fix menu offered which helps to justify the price of $89 per adult for this prime dining package experience. Bookings are now open, be sure to grab yours when they become available for your dates!

Fan Favorite Pre-Pandemic Offering Returns

Fantasmic! dining package announced

Okay, forget the rest of that other news. Let’s get down to the most important news of the day! Disney shared a preview image of what the upcoming pre-fix menu will look like for the Fantasmic! dining package and there appears to be a certain element included that has been MISSING from Blue Bayou since 2020. Can anyone spot it?

Yes, the Blue Bayou bread is pictured as being one of the five courses that are offered in this pre-fix package. The other four items are the included drink, starter, and entrée.

This is great news for those of us that desperately missed the bread service at Blue Bayou! My family’s feelings were so strong on the matter that my teenage son wasn’t even interested in dining there without the bread. Yes, it’s that serious. The Blue Bayou bread service was always delightful, the bread was always soft, warm and served with high end butter.

The lunch and dinner menu includes a variety of starters and entrées including:

  • Surf and Turf
  • Oscar-style Filet Mignon
  • Blackened Ribeye and Bourbon Shrimp
  • Gumbo
  • Heirloom Tomato and Watermelon Salad
  • Strawberry and Pistachio Salad

Dessert will be a themed Fantasmic! chocolate decadence tart.

While the bread service is being advertised as part of the five course pre-fix menu, it is likely it will be available to all guests but we will have to wait and see. If access to this highly sought after carbohydrate is placed behind a Fantasmic dining package paywall, then I’m sure we will ALL gladly pay it. Right? Maybe that’s just me.

Jokes aside, it’s great to see things continue to return to full normalcy at Disneyland. Even if it’s something as small as bread service, this takes investment and employees behind the scenes to make it happen. It’s the little touches like this that make restaurants like the Blue Bayou live up to their name of being a more luxurious offering at the theme parks. In my humble opinion, a restaurant being advertised as a higher quality experience should always have bread service.

As the next return to normalcy, I’d love to see a show occupying the Hyperion Theatre on a consistent basis! Here’s my plea for the return of Rogers: The Musical.

  1. I’m still waiting for breakfast to return to Flo’s. In park quick service breakfast options at DCA are Starbucks and Pyms. I miss the biscuits and gravy
