Recent visitors to Disneyland may have been disappointed by the closure of a ride that some consider the greatest attraction Walt Disney Imagineering has ever created. For Disneyland’s classic attractions to endure generation after generation, Disney needs to maintain them, and that means closing them from time to time. We track all Disneyland refurbishments here, and one of the major closures currently on the calendar is about to conclude.
Disneyland’s flagship ride is reopening after a nearly eight-week closure. We have details on what changed in the ride and how Disney is approaching refurbishments of classic attractions across the board. Mickey Visit brings you the latest Disney news and planning resources, including Disney quietly retiring a fan-favorite tradition and a big change to Disneyland’s Halloween party this year.
Pirates of the Caribbean Closure Ending
Pirates of the Caribbean at Disneyland Park closed on May 4, 2026, for refurbishment. After nearly eight weeks of work, the classic attraction will reopen on June 26!
During the refurbishment, workers spent time upkeeping and enhancing the ride’s rockwork and lighting, as well as the animation of the Audio-Animatronics figures, Disneyland shared with Mickey Visit.

The refurbishment period also included some work on Blue Bayou Restaurant, the eatery located inside the ride. It closed at the same time as Pirates of the Caribbean, but reopened on May 21. For the past few weeks, Blue Bayou Restaurant has been operational, but the view into the Pirates of the Caribbean scene was blocked off for part of this refurbishment.
As a reminder, Disneyland’s version of Pirates of the Caribbean offers a standby line only. It does not have a Lightning Lane.

Earlier this year, Thomas Mazloum, Chairman of Disney Experiences, gave us a look into his big-picture vision for ride refurbishments across the parks. At the time, Mazloum was President of Disneyland Resort. He spoke about an obsession with guest feedback, both positive and negative. He talked about how a big driver of refurbishments is to improve ride reliability, in turn leading to higher guest satisfaction.
We also heard from Natalie Katzka, Director of Attractions Engineering Services at Disneyland, who emphasized that regardless of the age and complexity of an attraction, Disney’s maintenance teams are focused on making sure that it runs consistently and delivers the right guest experience.
See much more insight from Mazloum and Katzka in our separate coverage.
