Walt Disney World has a few planned ride refurbishments coming up or already started. Plus, one loved ride is closing forever to make way for an exciting new addition. There are some big improvements kicking off. This is a quieter time of year when projects like this can happen with less disruption to guests.

Disney World February 2026 Ride Closures
EPCOT’s Frozen Ever After ride is currently closed for refurbishment and is set to reopen sometime in February 2026. This refurbishment will focus on updates to the controversial, projection faces of the Anna, Elsa and Kristoff Audio-Animatronics.

Inspiration for these changes will be taken from the animatronics at Hong Kong Disneyland’s World of Frozen. According to Disney, “this investment will bring a more true-to-film look for these beloved characters.” This change has been a long time coming following much backlash from guest on the projection faces.
The Fjording store in the Norway Pavilion is also currently closed for refurbishment.
The DINOSAUR ride at Animal Kingdom will permanently close on Feb. 2, 2026, to make way for a new Indiana Jones attraction. That ride already has the same ride system as Indiana Jones Adventure at Disneyland Park in California.
Restaurantosaurus and the Dino Institute Gift Shop, the other remaining pieces of Dinoland U.S.A., will also permanently close on Feb. 2, 2026.
Dinoland U.S.A will be replaced by a new land themed to the Tropical Americas called “Pueblo Esperanza” and will also have an Encanto attraction.
Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin in the Tomorrowland area of Magic Kingdom has been closed for maintenance since Aug. 4, 2025, and is set to reopen in spring 2026. Updates will include new ride vehicles, a brand new show scene and other game enhancements. Check out our article covering the overhaul for more information on the refurbishment.
Magic Kingdom’s Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is currently closed for a refurbishment that will bring some new enhancements to the Frontierland ride.
Executive Producer at Walt Disney Imagineering, Wyatt Winter, shared the nature of these new additions on Good Morning America. Winter hinted at a large-scale refurbishment with new trains, updated animatronics and other effects long overdue for maintenance. The ride will also get an updated Rainbow Caverns scene.
Due to major land transformations within Magic Kingdom, the Walt Disney World railroad is not operating in its traditional circular route right now. Disney has been running the railroad in limited shuttle mode since July 2025 featuring narration from Stitch.
On July 7, 2025, the Liberty Square Riverboat and Tom Sawyer Island of the former Rivers of America section of Frontierland, permanently closed to make way for the new Villain’s themed land and Cars themed land called Piston Peak National Park.
Typhoon Lagoon will close for refurbishment on Feb. 14, 2026 with Blizzard Beach Water Park reopening on Feb. 15, 2026.
