Disney World Dropping Virtual Queue for Two Major Rides, This Has Been a Long Time Coming and We’re Thrilled

Disney World offers virtual queues for its newest and most highly demanded attractions in place of standby queues, where guests can join a virtual queue on their phone and receive a designated return window to experience the ride. Recently, TRON Lightcycle / Run dropped its virtual queue in Magic Kingdom, and soon two more Disney World attractions will no longer offer virtual queues.

These are currently the only two remaining rides at Disney World that offer a virtual queue, and one of them has utilized a virtual queue for nearly three years since its opening, so visitors have been anticipating this change for a while. This major shift from virtual queue to standby line goes into effect very soon for both experiences.

Keep reading for more details on how you can access these two major Disney World rides now that their virtual queue is going away…

Disney World will soon be dropping the virtual queue for the recently opened Tiana's Bayou Adventure at Magic Kingdom and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT starting February 25, 2025.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind first opened in May of 2022 and has been extremely popular since that time. The dropping of this virtual queue has been a long time coming, as due to the high demand for the ride, it hasn't offered a standby queue up until this point. Starting February 25, a standby line will be available, and Lightning Lane Single Pass entry will still be offered for the ride.

Tiana's Bayou Adventure final scene

Tiana's Bayou Adventure at Magic Kindom will also be dropping its virtual queue starting February 25 and switching to a standby queue. The ride opened in its reimagined form last June and has offered the virtual queue option for a little over seven months. The ride is available via Lightning Lane Multi Pass service and is a popular offering as we discuss in our Magic Kingdom Lightning Lanes strategy. At Disneyland, its version of Tiana's Bayou Adventure made the switch from virtual queue to standby pretty quickly after its opening.

This is the right move made by Disney to further simplify the Disney World experience. It was quite grading to have to wake up at 7 am to try and secure a boarding group. It's just one more thing that makes the trip less of a vacation. Getting rid of that aspect for guests will unquestionably make these visits more enjoyable. More sleep = everyone happier in the park. There were plenty of times where you would have to wake up at 7 am to get a Guardians virtual queue and then not have a return time for that ride until midday.

For both of these rides but Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind especially, we expect demand for the standby line to be quite high for a while following this switch. We'll be curious how the traffic patterns flow around Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind specifically. In the evenings there has not been lots of activity around this attraction at this point.
