The closure ended up a quick one, as Hollywood Studios reopened the attraction without any prior announcement. Mickey & Minnie Short Film Closure
Vacation Fun – An Original Animated Short with Mickey & Minnie, temporarily closed at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on April 29, 2026.
Disney used the Mickey Shorts Theater as a pop-up merchandise location for exclusive Star Wars Day merchandise on May the 4th. Following this brief special event, Vacation Fun reopened on May 7.

Disney initially cited “refurbishment” as the reason for the closure, and said Vacation Fun would reopen “later this year” without providing an exact date. I had inferred a more extended closure from that language. In any case, the attraction is open again for guests to enjoy.
The 10-minute Vacation Fun is mostly made up of clips from Disney Television Animation’s Mickey Mouse series of the 2010s. Vacation Fun opened in 2020 in tandem with Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, whose art style is based on the same Disney Channel series.

Does Hollywood Studios Need a Permanent Flex Space?
It’s unique for an attraction to close so that its venue can basically become a flex space for something else.
As one of the lower-profile attractions in the park, Vacation Fun doesn’t have the same demand as the marquee experiences of Hollywood Studios. Disney is clearly okay with taking it offline for reasons other than necessary maintenance work.
Vacation Fun was also used as a merchandise location for Disney Jollywood Nights in 2025.
Should this become a more regular occurrence, I have to wonder if Disney may convert the Mickey Shorts Theater into a permanent spot for special-event merchandise. The park formerly used the Stage 1 Company Store for such purposes, but that building was demolished as part of prep for the upcoming Monsters, Inc. land.
