Is Disney on Ice Worth It Without Kids? A Review from a Disney Adult

Disney on Ice is a themed ice skating performance that offers different shows with characters from Frozen, Encanto, Disney Princesses, and Mickey Mouse. These shows rotate so you can see these performances more than once and likely see a new show.

Since Disney on Ice is geared so strongly for kids, many Disney adults often wonder if it's okay to attend these performances as an adult and if they're even worthwhile for adults. I just attended Disney on Ice, sans kids, and here are my thoughts on if this entertainment option is good for adults.

Is Disney on Ice Owned by Disney?

Disney On Ice

Disney on Ice is produced by Feld Entertainment's Ice Follies And Holiday on Ice, Inc. under agreement with The Walt Disney Company. Disney on Ice features the option for character meet and greets, themed Disney merchandise, and special seating for kids to get close to the action.

There is a wide range of performances with new shows introducing more recent and popular characters like Coco, Moana, and more. Each show will still feature classic elements like appearances from Mickey and friends plus classic Disney Princesses.

So for all intents and purposes, this is an official Disney offering although it is produced by a different company.

Get Your Dole Whip Fix

Dole whip

Well, first you can get your Dole Whip fix at Disney on Ice. Dole Whips are most notorious for being associated with the Disney Parks and cruises but you can also find these vendors at events like Disney on Ice! There's also themed Mickey snow cones, slushies, etc. but nothing that is a direct copy of the theme parks.

This is a nice way to get your Dole Whip fix if you don't live close to the parks.

Disney on Ice Merch Isn't the Best

Disney On Ice merch

If you're a Disney adult that likes to collect merchandise, you won't find much at Disney on Ice. Most of the merchandise is geared entirely towards small children and the quality of it is more on par with the type of generic Disney toys you could find at Target.

But if anything, this makes the experience more affordable. Especially since you can often find discount Disney on Ice tickets.

If You Like Disney, You'll Like Disney on Ice

Moana Disney on Ice

Now let's get to the show itself! I've seen Disney on Ice multiple times over the years, with my son when he was young, and as an adult going alone with other adults. I always find Disney on Ice enjoyable because this is essentially just ice skaters acting out songs and scenes from Disney films with traditional ice skating moves and puppetry. This show might be targeted towards a young audience but I have never felt bored at any of the Disney on Ice shows I've been to.

Disney On Ice

If you enjoy the entertainment at Disneyland and Walt Disney World then you will notice some similarities with the Disney on Ice shows. Essentially each show acts out scenes from popular Disney films. Which ones depends on the show you are seeing! Regardless of the name of the show, you will see Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse along with either Donald Duck, Goofy, or other classic characters. You will also see a big moment with most of the Disney Princesses.

Disney on Ice

This is actually a great way to help count down the days until your next Disney trip if you're feeling antsy for your next Disneyland or Walt Disney World visit. I remember seeing Disney on Ice with my son at one of the first rescheduled shows after COVID-19 and it was a nice experience to help us get through the long wait to be in the parks again. So yes, I think the entertainment at Disney on Ice is enjoyable for all ages- not just kids! There are a few moments that are clearly just for the kids but overall, anyone can enjoy Disney on Ice.

Adults Bring the Energy to Disney on Ice

Disney Frozen show

Frozen seems to be a staple at all the Disney on Ice shows I've been to. Most of the popular songs are acted out with “Let It Go” having quite a show stopping moment that the crowd always loves. I saw many adults singing along for all these songs, not just the kids! This was one of the moments that it was apparent that many Disney fans were in attendance.

Our show also highlighted the Tangled film focusing on most of the popular songs. Rapunzel is a big hit with audiences and this was another crowd favorite with many in the audience singing along. There is also some impressive aerial stunts the skaters do with these scenes that anyone would enjoy, not just kids. The performers are extremely talented and put on a great show.

Disney On Ice

Audience members lit up their flashlights on their phones for “I See The Light” which was interesting to see. While the lanterns for this moment were a bit… lackluster.. the energy from the crowd was similar to that of a concert.

I enjoy the show every time I watch it and it's a great way to enjoy Disney entertainment at a far lower cost than the parks. I recommend it if you enjoy Disney entertainment and are looking for a fun evening. The energy for these performances is definitely there from the crowd!

Do Adults Go to Disney on Ice Without Kids?

Disney on Ice

The answer is yes! We saw many adults there without kids. I do not think you will be judged one bit if you attend without kids. In fact, you might just save a lot of money attending without kids since you can be strong enough to resist all the bright flashing toys they walk up and down the aisles before showtime.

I noticed many adults wearing Minnie Ears, spirit jerseys, and notable theme park merchandise at our Disney on Ice show. I think it's fair to assume that you will find many Disney fans at Disney on Ice whether they are attending without kids or with them!

We were hosted by Disney on Ice for this experience.
