Recently, during the Lunar New Year celebration at Disney California Adventure, Disneyland tested out a new way to redeem Sip and Savor Pass coupons with a scannable pass. Guests had the option to try out the new scannable pass or opt for the traditional pass with physical coupons attached. Now, Disneyland is introducing a more substantial new Sip and Savor change for the Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival, which we will discuss more below.

Keep reading for everything you need to know about the Sip and Savor Pass, including an overview of what it is, how to use it, pricing, and our take on whether or not it is worth it.

What is the Disney California Adventure Sip and Savor Pass?

Sip and Savor Festival of Holiday

The Sip and Savor Pass is offered for the festivals that take place at Disney California Adventure throughout the year, including the Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival, the Lunar New Year celebration, and the Disney Festival of the Holidays. There are huge special menus released during these times in celebration of each event, with food marketplaces around the park and special offerings at dining locations.

For visitors who want to try several of the foods offered during these events, the Sip and Savor Pass is an option you can purchase that gives you a select number of entitlement tabs that you can redeem for select food and nonalcoholic beverages at participating Marketplaces and dining locations. Depending on the festival, your pass will include 4, 6, or 8 entitlement tabs (more on the new 4-tab option below!).

With the traditional Sip and Savor pass, you'll tear off each tab at the time of purchase and hand it to a Cast Member. The coupon needs to be attached to the Sip and Savor Pass when you go to redeem it, so already detached coupons will not be accepted.

Disneyland started testing out a new digital Sip and Savor pass during the Lunar New Year celebration. To use this, you show your Sip and Savor pass to the Cast Member to scan, then you enter the 4-digit code on the pass. This is in place of tearing each individual physical coupon off. On your printed receipt, you can see the number of coupons remaining the same way you can see when redeeming a Disney Gift Card.

Sip and Savor Pricing and Where to Buy

Pricing for Sip and Savor Passes may vary per festival and year, and there is also a slightly discounted price for Magic Key holders who purchase a Sip and Savor Pass.

For reference, the 2024 Lunar New Year Sip and Savor Pass cost $46 per pass ($43 for Magic Key holders), the 2023 Festival of Holidays cost $59 ($54 for Magic Key holders), and the 2024 Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival costs $61 for all guests and $56 for Magic Key holders, with the new 4-tab option costing $31.

During the current  Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival with Sip and Savor offerings, you can buy a Sip and Savor Pass at the following locations:

  • Sip and Savor Cart
  • Elias & Co.
  • Julius Katz & Sons
  • Rushin' River Outfitters
  • Seaside Souvenirs
  • Festival Merchandise

New Sip and Savor Option For Food & Wine Festival

New this year, there is a big change coming for Sip and Savor Passes! Guests can choose between two Sip and Savor Pass types: a new four-coupon option and the normal eight-coupon option.

This is a good addition for guests who are not sure they will be able to make it through eight coupons and want to make sure they will be making good use of the pass. For visitors enjoying a multi-day trip, this can also be a good option if you end up using up the 8-tab traditional pass and would like to try some more foods but don't want to commit to going through all 8 coupons of another pass.

While it hasn't been explicitly stated if the digital pass will return or not, we are curious to see if it does. We found that this option was very straightforward to use, and it saved some time not having to tear off each individual tab to hand to the Cast Members at the marketplaces.

I personally much preferred it to the traditional option with physical tabs. Because there will be two different Sip and Savor Pass types for this festival, it will be interesting to see if a digital option is still offered for the traditional eight-coupon option or both options.

Is the Sip and Savor Pass Worth It?

If we look at the price of a Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival Pass (valued $59 with 8 tabs last year), this values the items you're purchasing at about $7.38 each. If you're a Magic Key Holder ($54), this would be about $6.75 for each item. To make sure you're getting the most value out of your Sip and Savor Pass, you'll want to use it on the more expensive food items offered (in the $8-$9 per item price range). If you don't look at the prices and end up getting items that are less expensive, you won't be making the best use of the pass.

If you know you are going to be trying a lot of foods, are visiting for multiple days, or are using the pass with a bigger group, you can combine the Sip and Savor Pass with a la carte purchases by using the pass for the most expensive items and buying the cheaper items separately.

There are a few other advantages of Sip and Savor Passes you can enjoy. One of the biggest perks of getting a Sip and Savor Pass is the convenience of it—rather than dealing with the hassle of paying individually for each item you purchase, you can simply pull off an entitlement tab (or enter your 4-digit code if the pass is digital).

The Sip and Savor Pass is ideal for sharing as well! You can decide ahead of time the items you are interested in trying, then order these and share them amongst members of your party. Even though the Sip and Savor offerings are tasting-size portions rather than full entrees, we've found that they're often more than enough to share when there are 8 total, and this also allows everyone in your group to sample different items. This might be less of the case for the 4-tab Sip and Savor Pass, which would be more practical to use for one person (depending on your appetite).

You can also use your Sip and Savor pass across multiple visits during the festival, so even if you don't get through all your tabs, you can still return and use them during your next trip before the end of the festival.

There are certain limitations to the Sip and Savor Pass, like the fact that you are not able to redeem alcoholic beverages with them. Especially during festivals with a larger menu of alcoholic beverages, it can be disappointing that they are not included with the pass. If you are looking through the menu of the festival and finding that you are mostly interested in trying these drinks over the foods, then buying a pass might not be the best option for you. On a similar note, if you know you're a light eater who won't make it through all 8 tabs, the Sip and Savor Pass may not be worth it for you (although you could explore the new 4 tab option as an alternative).

You'll also need to hold on tight to your Sip and Savor passes, as they will not be replaced if lost, stolen, damaged, or expired. The passes are also non-refundable, non-transferable, and may not be redeemed for cash. Thankfully, the Sip and Savor Pass comes with a lanyard so you can wear it around your neck, but be careful not to lose it if you end up taking it off or storing it somewhere else. As mentioned previously, you also need to make sure that the coupons stay attached to the pass until you go to redeem them, as they will not be accepted if already detached. This is not an issue for the digital coupons, which is one of the reasons why we prefer them.

Overall, we do think the Sip and Savor Pass is worth it if you use it wisely to get the most value out of it, though you should take into consideration your own appetite and preferences to make sure it's the best option for you.
